A friend in Vermont is bringing me a case of Heady Topper from Winooski. First timer with this brew. I've had plenty of other great DIPA's (my favorite style) and my preferred method to drink them is to start out on the colder side, then allow the beer to go through the various temperatures and flavor changes during the course of 30 minutes or so. For the experienced Heady consumer, what are some of your favorite temperatures? Or do you basically do what I do? Thanks! Looking forward to my case!

There is no good temperature, you should just send them to me.

Drink them at the temperature you prefer.

I've never had HT and I realize that this is stated on the can, I believe. But really, is it more enjoyable from the can?

I actually just got a batch in a trade, and followed instructions... for about the first 3 mouthfuls then poured the rest into a proper glass. From the can I couldn't get my nose in and really enjoy the hop aromas, but that is just my preference.

In terms of temperature, I had it too cold first time around, and pull it from the fridge about 20-30 minutes before I crack it - looking for about 50 degrees in the glass, and it pretty quickly gets to about 60 as I drink it.

I prefer to take it out of the fridge about 15 minutes prior to drinking. I think it tastes a bit astringent if it's too cold.

Although I appreciate the benefits of drinking it from the can, I generally prefer to pour it into a glass. The reason not to pour it, according to the brewer, is that the volatile hop aromas and flavors dissipate more quickly once poured. The easy solution to this is to pour 1/3 of the can into a glass and leave the rest safely in the can. When you're ready, pour another 1/3 and then repeat!

Agreed - hop aromas don't do me any good if they are in the can - I want them in my nose!

You've got a case, man. 24 beers later you should be the one telling us what the best serving temp is!

Just like all tall silver cans you need to chill it till the mountains turn blue.

I've had it from the can and in a few different styles of glasses. Yes, it's great out of the can. Yes, it's even better out of a glass.

The best way is to drink it out of a frosted mug.

It's not just a Heady thing - with almost any pale ale (APA, IPA, DIPA), it's probably outta the fridge for about 5-10 minutes before I drink it - and then it'll warm gradually as I drink it.

The correct way to drink Heady Topper is to pour it... into your mouth.
