I've recently become very fond of Jackie O's because of a brewer friend out this way in New England. We have some good ones here, but so much focuses on hops. It's amazing how many people ask for Hill Farmstead/Treehouse/Heady Topper.

Anyway, looking for some great stouts (& barleywines) and possible trading friends. I do what I can out here with a young family so trips out to the aforementioned can be few and far between. My cellar is pretty good.

Any recommendations on what to seek out? What's the best beer to seek out?

I feel like this belongs in the trading section ha-ha.
Anyway, whatever sounds good to you my man. Read up, check beer release threads and trade for what YOU think sounds like the best. Welcome to the insanity that is beer trading.

BUT*** as long as I'm here...
Bourbon County anything (regular, BW,Coffee, etc.)
Big Bruery Stouts are an experience- Black Tuesday, Chocolate Rain, Mocha Wednesday, Grey Monday
Also various Cigar City Stouts, Prairie Stouts, Evil Twin, the Midwest usual suspects- KBS, Bourbon Barrel Plead the Fifth, Black Note, Mexican Breakfast Stout?, Perrin No Rules, many many many more.
A good place to start would probably be the top 250 beers, check the trade boards and see what's out there, and what people are asking in return for it. There's been a lot of people giving up these big Stouts for quantity IPA's you have access too (which I'm sure you're well aware of).
    Cheers

Personally, I think Event Horizon and Omega Point are both fantastic examples of their styles. But, my personal favorite stout is the tried and true Stone IRS. For me, it doesn't get much better.

Central waters makes some amazing barrel aged beers. I've tried some of the more hyped stuff and CW is right there with anything I've had so far. Black gold is their best but is very limited. Their anniversary stout, the latest being 17, is also only available at the brewery but is usually there for some months. Their brewers reserve beers are distributed and would be the easiest to get/trade for.

For a couple of shelf beers, both Bells Expedition and Founders Breakfast Stout are top-notch.

Ah, we don't get Bells here. Bummer.

Yeah I thought about the trade forum, but I was just wondering about Great Lakes - ish stouts and barleywines. I've heard many great things about CW, another I don't have access to. Thanks for the suggestions so far!

I completely forgot that you can get Founders in NH.

One that (I believe) is making is way around again is Pipeworks' Grand Guignol Act 1. I found it to be excellent.

Anything CW puts in a barrel is worth your while, especially Black Gold, the Anniversary stouts, and the BB Barleywine.
