Best Straight Stout?

    If I'm understanding the point of this thread correctly, then all of the following stouts/porters mentioned so far are disqualified:


    Alesmith Speedway Stout (contains coffee)
    Bell's Kalamazoo Stout (contains licorice)
    Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break (contains almonds, coffee, vanilla....c'mon, was this really necessary? "straight stout" ?)
    Founders Breakfast Stout (contains coco and coffee)
    Hopworks Survival 7 Grain Stout (contains coffee)
    Left Hand Milk Stout (contains lactose)
    Old Dominion Oak Barrel Stout (contains vanilla beans)
    Ska Steel Toe Stout (contains lactose)
    Spring House Big Gruesome Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout (contains....guess)

    All great suggestions so far but if you can get Buried Hatchet Stout in your area, try it! It's the best bang for your buck. BHS comes in 4 packs but tastes like it should come in 750ml bottles for 12 or 13 bucks

    Marshal Zhukov and founders imperial stout. Both, in my opinion, have a great mouthfeel, as well as very complex flavors.

    I was gonna say Zhukov was the obvious answer but then I was reminded of Darkness. Both are so goddamn good, and in different ways.

    FIS probably and Pt5 close behind, with honorable mentions to Old Raspy and Ten FIDY. Tired Hands' Only Void is also exceptional but much less well-known than the others.

    I am glad for this thread because I haven't had a Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout in so long I don't even remember what it tasted like. Next buy is SS oatmeal stout.
