I say brew what you want to drink, but nothing too crazy or complex. It's summer.... to brew a hefe, BPA or APA.... pushing too fall? brown porter. but more importantly, brew what you want to drink.... next month.

Brew what you like but I do agree with the others by staying away from anything "imperial". By brewing what you like to drink on the regular, this will allow you to taste wether it came out right or not. Dont be nervous, dive in and enjoy the brew day. Prepare to enter your new addiction!

I started with extract kits, great way to get a feel for the process. Honestly though...I wish I would have started with all grain BIAB style. All those fancy words were offputting though, like mash in, sparge, flameout, dough in....Hell I still don't know what dough in means...

I lost interest in brewing after many mediocre beers...I don't know what I did different when I picked it back up and tried making a Berliner but damned if it wasn't the best beer I've ever made. Just as good as Funky Buddha's berliners to me, so it ignited my passion for brewing in a way I didn't think was possible any longer.

So brew what you like, and don't give up. All grain isn't that much harder, just more time consuming. You can order grains already milled and brew them in a paint strainer bag to make the process less equipment intensive. The reward for me has been a massive jump in quality, but I know others brew award winning beers with extracts so idk, maybe I just wasn't handling extract correctly.

I have brewed a few different styles of beers and the one I had the easiest time with was just a simple APA. A lot of people reccomend porters and stouts because they are also relatively straightforward but in my personal experience, an APA was the easier for me.
