Harvey has brought with it some relatively cool weather for these parts. It's got me in the mood for some darker brews. I just relocated to DFW this year, and I not entirely familiar with the best local fall seasonals. Any recommendations on good local octoberfests? I'm not generally big on pumpkin beers but are there any really good ones in Texas?
So far this year I've enjoyed the Shiner, Rahr, and Southern Star Oktoberfest beers for being darker but dry. Legal Draft's this year is of the modern lighter Festbier style. It's really good although the six-pack I bought seemed to have a metallic flavor but I mostly drink them at the brewery. I have been on the lookout for Real Ale and Sierra Nevada's. I was in Austin at the end of July and the Specs that I went to didn't have Live Oak Oaktoberfest. I'll be back next week looking to bring a six pack back. Versions that I have not cared for so far: 903, OHB, Bitter Sisters. They are all a bit cloying to me or have some fermentation off flavors.
I really don't like pumpkin beers generally. But I did like Pumpkinator back when it was Divine Reserve No. 9. I THINK I've had it since it was a regular seasonal.
Visiting Austin the weekend of 9/23. Was hoping to hit Jester King for Zwanze Day but who knows if that pans out. How is Real Ale's Oktoberfest (might do their event that day)? Can anyone compare it to a German import? Thanks!
I was at a wedding almost a year ago and that was the only non AAL that they had. My wife was behaving so I cut loose. I swear I drank a shit ton of them that night, haven't had one since, but man oh man they were so good that night.
