Backwoods Bastard isn't an unknown beer, IMO it doesn't fly under the radar. But the style is still a different for most people. It was on the shelf, I chose not to buy it, I'm not a BW fan. It's a well appreciated beer for those that like BW. .

It has to be from a nanobrewery since they do not make "crappy craft beer"!?!

    Cheers!

One of the best sours I have had. The Cab Barrel and the Brett and Pedio create some tropical fruit flavors.
    Cant wait to get more.

I'd agree that backwoods bastard isn't an unknown beer. It moves pretty fast around here. But it's not at barleywine, it's a scotch ale/wee heavy.

I wholeheartedly agree, though I'd be hard pressed to call Brown Shugga 'Unknown' :stuck_out_tongue:

To contribute to the conversation, though, I'll put forward Uinta Rise and Pine. Surprisingly excellent.

Those are a few that came to mind. I don't see anyone really discussing them and they're all very nice beers.

Here's some local hero/obscure beers out of Frederick, MD that people should give a visit and try:

'86 IPA from Olde Mother (they've really stepped up their game). Planning to can soon.

Baby Waker RIS - small batch release from Monocacy Brewing. Waayy better than Brewtus that is distributed. This one is currently not on tap, but hopefully will make a repeat visit.

Scotch Ale from Brewers Alley - just a phenomenal beer for the style

New Moon Ale (an Old Ale) from Brewers Alley - served on cask at the brewery and they hold back small batches after brewing once annualy and they put out an increment of it every month during the New Moon so you can taste it aging...its still fresh right now in Nov/Dec and a little hot, but once it gets 6+ months age and served on cask, its a world class brew IMO.

I really enjoyed Brewtus from Monocacy.. very surprising!
I'd like to mention a couple of local brews that always taste fantastic: Dominion Brewery - Pam Barrel Stout
The Fin City Brewery - Boackfin

I literally fell asleep posting this last night. I've been dry for over a month, so it was not the result of too much of anything. All better now :grinning:

Singlecut turns out some amazing IPAs but is way under the radar.

Someone gave me a beer club membership for a gift after I did them a solid. I have been splitting it with them because the gift was overkill. This beer "Dominion Brewery - Oak Barrel Stout" came in one of the shipments. Unfortunately they never got to experience it

Since Softly Spoken Magic Spells is number 165 on the top 250 I'm not sure they are way under the radar. I agree they make amazing IPA's but they are under the radar for their non IPA beers. I recently had Heavy Boots of Lead which shows they can make some pretty darn good stouts as well. There are tons of breweries that are amazing that don't show up on the top 250, NightShift is another great one. Allagash has been on the list previously but has nothing right now, they make some amazing beers. My local bottle shops post their new beers and nearly every post now has beers that are amazing. I could go broke buying beers that aren't on the top 250 that blow my mind. In the last week I've seen Lizard of Koz, Big Bad Baptista, Double Barrel Big Bad Baptist, Lunch, Farm to Face, Firestone Walker XX aniversary, etc.. That's well over $100 I could spend in one week for mind blowing beers and it will repeat next week. Its a great problem to have.
