I know in NYC that a lot of the better beer bars have a fairly up to date presence on BeerMenus and was wondering if there was something similar that was popular for the Boston area? I'm headed there this upcoming weekend and was hoping to preview what some of the pubs/bars we are visiting might have as an offering.

I noticed that almost none of the places were on BeerMenus. Is FindMyTap or TapLister more prevalent in Boston? Or is it just attempting to see what is on each bar's website (if at all or close to up to date)?

    Any suggestions?

There's really no great centralized option around here. Many of the individual sites for bars post menus, but they are often out of date. Even when up-to-date, things kick and rotate in throughout the night. If you poke around online though, you'll get a very good feel for the types of things the various bars serve. Ultimately they're all fairly similar as the same kegs generally roll into town to the same bars. Just depends if you want to lean Belgian, German, local, etc.

Yeah, as others have said, websites are the most reliable way of getting updated lists in boston. I've tried an iPhone app called "TapHunter," but it's really only good for getting an updated tap list for one bar: Stoddard's Fine Food & Ale. Lord Hobo and the Publick House are also listed, but their tap lists in the app haven't been updated since late January. (Stoddard's, however, was just updated on Friday.)

From my web bookmarks, here are several places that are consistently good at updating their tap lists online:
    http://www.atwoodstavern.com/drink/
    http://lordhobo.com/?page_id=188
    http://www.theindo.com/menus/draft.php
    http://www.deepellum-boston.com/drinks.php

    http://www.redbones.com/brews.html
    http://bukowskitavern.net/boston/current_draft_list

Publick House updates its list here, but I can never tell how frequently it gets updated.

Picco is really more of a pizza place than a beer bar, but I'm including it here because (a) they update their website often, (b) they have a nice range of offerings, and (c) I love their pizza.

Stoddard's actually has a fairly terrible website that takes forever to load, so TapHunter might not be a bad option if you're looking for a current draft list there.

Sometimes I shake my head at some web site developers think is a good idea...user experience seems to be a foreign concept for some - but hey, that background sure looks pretty.

And don't get me started on black backgrounds - especially some that use dark text on them.

Good list, but although Atwoods went thru a brief period of web site updating, they pretty much have given up (unfortunately) and are close to a year without an update.

Dang, you're right. I totally hadn't noticed that. Bummer. They were doing a great job for a while there. (Website issues aside, I still love Atwood's -- especially now that patio weather has arrived.)

Reviving this old thread just to note that Atwood's recently started regularly updating its tap list online. Lots of great info that now also includes pour size, ABV, and prices. http://atwoodstavern.com/drink/

As noted above, I still love Atwood's.

Beer bars in Boston for some reason are above providing updated tap lists online. Every beer bar in NYC appears to be on TapHunter, or BeerMenu and it updates almost hourly (not sure how or if there is a cost). Would love to see this happen in Boston, but we might see happy hour first.

I have been using taplist.at to find some up to date info - my understanding is that it mines untappd check ins. Better for seeking out a particular beer than it is for up to the minute draft list, but used in conjunction with bar's individual lists, gives you a good indication of what is on.

not sure if it was listed yet, but I've been searching google with the keywords "name of bar" + "untappd", sometimes I have to put in the city after the bar incase there is more then one, but this gives the location of the bar on untappd with most recent check ins.. I've decided to go to one place over the other based on that.. but it doesn't tell you if it was kicked, so check the "check in" dates
