Best year around shelf stouts.

For fellow Californians, i would add Bear Republic Big Bear Black Stout, a ridiculous deal at $8.99 a 6-pack. Also, a caveat or two: the last Speedway Stout I had was very metallic and not very enjoyable considering the price point. Also, it's been awhile since I've seen Ten-Fidy in any of the local stores I shop at..

 

Everything mentioned here is good. That is all I have to contribute.

 

Great Divide Yeti (all styles - although, perhaps not the Belgian version)
Speedway Stout
Victory Storm King
Hoppin' Frog B.O.R.I.S (regular oatmeal stout as I think the others are limited)
Highland Black Mocha - I get it's not highly rated, but it's ALWAYS available in NC and I enjoy it.

 

Since when is 89 a low score? I'm not saying it's a top tier stout - but it's nothing short of solid for a year round go-to (IMO).

 

That's all that needs to be said.

Another vote for Kalamazoo Stout. It is light bodied enough to drink during the hazy days of summer and tastes great.

 

Bell's Java Stout is my favorite shelf stout, although I'm not sure if it's available year-round

 

Speedway and Deschutes Obsidian. Used as cooking go to's as well.... Mmmmm BBQ sauce and marinades.....

 

Best year-round imperial stout is Great Divide Yeti. It doesn't get the "wow" factor on the interwebs because it's everywhere, but it really is top 1% of its style. Easily.

Sure it is, especially since OP is asking about year-round stouts; it literally only entails walking into a decent bottle shop and looking for the word "stout" on a label.

 

Looks like OP's own local Stone will soon have a session stout to try.

 

I stand corrected. I so rarely drink a year round stout, it didn't even compute.
