This is kinda a multi faceted question and only part of applies to cellaring/storing beer, so I'm not sure if this is the ideal place to ask it but whatever.

So through some scrambling and making the rounds at all my local stores I managed to get my hands on 4 bottles of Founders KBS. I was wondering if it would be better to store in a fridge or a closet? I live in Alabama which gets pretty hot so to keep utility cost down my apartment usually stays about 70-75. About 15-20 degrees warmer then what beer should ideally be stored at, and fridges are more of a short term thing. Neither is ideal I'm just wanting to know which would be better.

So you know the time frames what I'm planning on doing is drinking one as my I'm done with finals beer here in a month. 1 is going to my roommate, who knowing him will probably just drink it. And the other two I haven't quite made up my mind on yet. I'll either have them with my dad on his birthday or try and make a trade with them for one of the big time IPA's out there. His birthday is late September for a time reference.

That leads to the other part of the question, how possible would it be to work a trade centered around those for one of the top tier IPA/DIPA's (something from Russian River, Alchemist or the like)? Would traders just blow that off or do you think something could be worked out from there. I've only ever done a few small in person trades for shelf beers and don't know how people typically value more special stuff like this.

    Thanks before hand.

P.S. sorry this got a bit long winded and a little bit off topic for this sub. I just didn't feel like making a second post in the trading section.

I'd say put it in the fridge. KBS doesn't have any big, bold flavors that need to mellow out. Its already pretty balanced and mild. I can't imagine it gets any better with time, if I wasn't planning on drinking them soon I'd want to preserve it as close to its current state as possible.

I'd keep anything coffee in the fridge (and Firestone BA beers because they say to "cellar" at 40F)

I always drink my KBS in the first 6 months. Usually, 3 before spring comes and my 4th when winter is around the corner. I have never had an amazing experience cellaring this beer. It tastes great out of the gate and falls off quickly, IMO. Much more chocolate around 6 months vs fresh coffee now.

I got two bottles and put one in my wine fridge where it is not as cold as a standard fridge. My plan was to save a bottle for a year and put it next to the 2016 KBS.

That's about what I'm thinking. It will be about 5-6 months when I would be drinking/sharing those last two bottles, if I hang on to them. Where have you stored them with the best results in the past? Based off of other peoples responses I'm leaning towards just sticking them in the fridge.

Mine are in my basement, but it's around 55 in my beer cellar. So with your current situation I would opt for the fridge too.

I agree with beernuts...go with the fridge, especially for the two that will be consumed soon. About the trade, you should read the rules/guidelines for the trading forum and just post a FT:ISO. I feel KBS trades pretty evenly with Pliny and Heady.
