I have a question about small glass front refrigerators. I'm shopping around and want something similar to the link below. Anyone out there have any ideas on what to get that could be better within the 300/400 buck price range? Going in the den, I don't brew, and should hold beers in different sized bottles IE squatty bottles like founders or SN and taller ones like bells or stone. Don't care to hold bombers, or wine bottles. Probably will go shopping next week. http://www.lowes.com/pd_326324-4722...L=?Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&facetInfo=
I have a Haier 34 bottle wine fridge, I got from Craigslist for $50. Don't buy new. Waste of money. To answer your questions about bottle sizes. If I had to guess between large bottles and small, I probably have close to 50 bottles in there they way I have done it all Tetris style. Cheers!
Adjustable shelves. Some have wire shelves that are "wavy" to hold lay downs. They don't work so well for standing up bottles. This one looks fine, but would mention that it's a chiller, not a fridge. It won't keep beers all that cold, even at 33degree setting (the air won't circulate...i think). Also look for moisture controling thingy.
I'd look on Craigslist as well. You'll find lots of different kinds. I bought two...1 the compressor went out about 7 months in. The 2nd one was much bigger with sliding glass doors. It has a 10 year warranty on the compressor so if you buy off CL I'd definitely make sure the compressor is in good condition. If those go on refridgerators it's nothing but a storae unit.
I don't buy used because you're potentially buying someone else's problem. However, I did purchase a new Avanti apartment fridge for about $350 with tax and when I take a couple of the shelves out, I have room for 24 stubby 12 ozs on one shelf, 24 tall 12 ozs on another shelf and 2 32 oz. growlers and 6 bombers standing up without any problem. I can also fit 6 more bombers lying down or another 12 12 oz. bottles any size standing up. I considered it a bargain but I guess it depends on your budget.
