So I bought a used BM23 and its not quite as cold as it should be. I took a look at the evaporator coil and it is icing up . Does this mean a refrigerant leak? How easy is it to recharge?

    Thanks for any help

If the coil has ice forming it will limit the amount of air that can pass through the fins.

Defrost. Turn it off. A small candle placed inside will speed things up.
I don't think you have a leak here because it would be running 24/7 with no ice forming. A refrigeration repair man will need to look at it to be certain though. It may also be a worn out compressor with worn out refrigerant. It is a mechanical device after all.

Also check all of the door seals to be sure there isn't a leak. Ice formation will happen quickly if the moist ambient air is getting in.
    Cheers.

thanks, i think the issue was a small leak in the door seal, and the fact that i was running it outside where the humidity was 95% yesterday in the northeast. I moved it inside to air conditioning and its working much better with not much icing on the coil. i think i just need to replace the gasket.
