So here is the idea and I'm not sure if it works so this is a feeler. The basis behind this is that I have a ton of beer, good beer but many of it doubles or stuff I've had before. So I figure there is some people out there like me. So it is a BIF for Quantity vs. Quantity.

The idea of this isn't to dump a bunch of crappy beers on someone. Also it isn't to grab a bunch of beers and not reciprocate. It is to match those with a lot to those who have a lot of good beer.

Here is my idea. Quantity side --> send a lot of good beer to a target

Quality side --> send a handful of really good beer to someone.

My idea is quantity sends like 12-18 beers. Quality sends 4-6 beers. Quantity send 90+ point beers that are recognized as good beers not avail to target.

Quality send 4-6 beers that may be brewery release or limited types.

If we get a handful on both sides I'll get Thai going. If not, then oh well.

When signing up, let me know if you are quality or quantity.

When you say "brewery release or limited" on the quality side; would growler-only beer from well known local breweries such as Tired Hands, Forest & Main, Tree House, Trillium, Cigar City, NEBCo, etc work?

Personally, if I was giving away a decent quantity of solid beer, getting back 4 or 5 growlers from Tree House would suit me just fine; conversely, I'd be happy to send out a few Forest & Main and/or Tired Hands growlers to get a haul like you're describing on the quantity side.

For me, that I'd be happy being on either side of such a deal suggests it'd work, but I'm just one man. Thoughts?

I'd definitely want to receive quality rather than quantity.

I'd be in for receiving quality.

So to OP as well as you two (and any other interested parties) - Would my above suggested growlers meet "quality" to you?

Depends on what the growler was. IMO, not any growler from say CCB or NEBCO would cut it.

Yeah I was referring specifically to brewery-only, Tired Hands that's foregone, but from CCB obviously Jai Alai wouldn't cut it (good though it is)

I personally don't know if I would rank TH growlers up there unless if it is one of their well known sought after beers, but that may just be me.

Doesn't seem like a ton of interest. It would be hard to manage the expectations I would guess. I probably should have made it more like quality quantity vs quality meaning highly sought after. One example would be say a box of 12 shelf Cantillion for a box of 3 Fou Foune. Obviously that is over simplified but that was my idea.

I'm hoping it just hasn't been long enough, I think this is a pretty cool idea; maybe leave it up a few more days, see what it looks like after the weekend?

It appears that most people are interested in shipping quantity and getting quality back, which is what my preference would be. Personally I think the better option would be to set this up as a two trade sequence. First go round half send quality and half send quantity. Second go round the roles and targets are flipped? Am I making sense?

Lehighace05, I'm a light drinker who generally prefers brews with some shelf life. Growlers don't really resonate with me. I'm probably a bit odd on that though.

I don't know this Lehighace05, but for my part, I get what you mean; I got 3 growlers in a BIF one time that kept me busy for the better part of a week, and I'm not exactly a 'light drinker' either. As I've gotten some feedback and thought on it myself, I think the best course would be 1 or 2 of the best available growlers along with a couple bottled gems, rather than trying to force it and send out a handful of just growlers. I think most people can get through 2 growlers in a timely fashion, and I feel bad for anyone who can't at least drink one

I like this idea a lot, but you'd have to really be tight on getting commitments from everyone that they can legitimately handle a double-BIF that includes a large quantity of great beer and no small quantity of exceptional beer. I'd hate for the half that sent quality first to wind up feeling shafted if some people faded away after round one. I for one would have to think long and hard about if I could really commit to two top notch boxes at once (in the next couple months anyway, after the holidays is another matter).

I like the idea, but think that it might just be best to make this 2 separate bif's, or one bif where we all send 2 to 4 gems, and a bunch of locals..set the rules to try and keep it a little sane, with minimum ba score on the gems and number expected to send, then no min score but oz min and max on the locals. The gems should try and hit high value wants, locals not so much. Could be fun, and a little easier to do than the stout bif going on where we are all over achievers hitting 300 ounces or more of high value...

Just trying to avoid any hard feelings. I think it would help to have a min and max so no one gets a lopsided trade. Me, I like sharing good beer and don't mind sending a big box...

Didn't see @JavaNoire in the thread; package, I meant a big package.

Yeah I got that, and I agree with the point, if you're doing "gems" and getting "locals" being an overachiever will get very lopsided very quickly. That said, it's been my experience that most people still will say "what maximum?" and overachieve anyway. This is why I worry about the 2nd round, it could escalate a little too quickly for some. We'll just have to recruit @Ol_Johnny_Skippelwicky into the BIF so he can provide wolf spiders to those that don't follow the rules.

    Well played.

I wonder if I can petition the Bros to have "Wolf Spider Wrangler" as my official title on BA

That seems like a great idea to me as well and I would definitely be in. I have been wanting to get in on a BIF for a while now as I really like the surprise of opening a completely unknown box.
