Maybe the Christmas ham wasn't thoroughly cooked? It could have been something totally unrelated to the beer.

You won't get big biceps doing one set of curls. You won't get your man gut by drinking one big beer.

Is this the first time something like this has happened? If so it must have been because of something else. Even at that ABV, unless it was your first time drinking alcohol or you have some known intolerance, 12oz shouldn't lead to vomming

Sarcasm of the previous post aside. You didn't mention the eating of food. Please say you ate a good and hearty meal, preferably something that would soak up some of that booziness. And drink the water AFTERwards.
I know if I'm contemplating drinking big beers, I also need to contemplate eating and padding myself for handling them. Otherwise, it's bad decision time.

Do the same thing you did that night, but drink 4 beers at 4% in the same time frame. That will tell you if it is the alcohol.

    Arizona person huh.

Maybe don't drink beers like that and just "keep it local" as so many say here in PHX. Pour an Old World Dark Knight Porter instead, or a tendy labeled SanTan Sex Panther. Save the Mephistopholes, Tweak, Bourbon County, etc. for the rest of us.

I too have issues with acid reflux, and in particular beer sets it off. My solution is to do the above with water and food, but also take one Tum before you start drinking. It works wonders for me.

As I age I have trouble with the higher ABV's , I love them they don't feel the same about me, however one should have never made you sick maybe a combo of what you ate or lack of food and lying down to soon. I used to have major issues with acid reflux, but gave up on daily cigars and it was the price I was more than happy to pay

I have a hard time with big beers (12+ ABV), I have to really work to drink them slowly, I tend to drink them at the same pace as I do any other beer, and I pay for it later...I'm getting better

I drink a 15-20% beer the same as I drink a low abv, just a hair slower, then again a serving of bourbon for me is 6-7 oz everyone handles alcohol differently there are all different factors, size, metabolism, genetic make up affect alcohol tolerance more than drinking habits. Helps that I am a 6'4 295 lbs man of German/English/Native American heritage yjays been drinking since I could ride a bike lol

Haven't had this beer yet but some brewers use lactose (milk sugar) to sweeten their beers, particularly imperial stouts. Lactose doesn't ferment as readily as maltose (barley sugar) with beer yeast so it doesn't get converted to alcohol when added to a beer. If you're lactose intolerant and drinking a lactose flavored beer on an empty stomach this might be the problem.

Thanks everybody for the input. I am gonna guess it was the Ramen Noodles I ate before drinking the stout. Sounds like a terrible combo after the fact. Btw the Hairy Eyeball I can handle no problemo!
