Not much in this section regarding Hawai'i, other than folks traveling and asking where to go, so I'll post something different. Big Island Brewhaus just released Red Velvet, a red milk stout on cask. Very creamy, reminiscent of a coffee off nitro. If you're in the islands, definitely worth finding some.

Honolulu Beerworks Hop Island seems to be a local favorite in the IPA category here. Honestly, one of the best local IPAs I've had, since moving here last August. Before they released Hop Island, I wasn't a huge fan of theirs.

Maui Brewing just released Jaws IIIPA this past week. Comes in at 12.5% and 100+ IBUs. Hasn't made it's way to Oahu yet, but looks to be a solid IIIPA (or Barley Wine, which ever you want to call it).

Had the Honolulu Beer Works Batch #182 - Wet Hop Mosaic today. Very aggressive hop profile. It tasted like a Grateful Dead concert, super dank. Very impressed with this one.

They also had a Saison brewed with local honey, aged in Sav Blanc barrels, another good one.

I'm heading to Kona in 3.5 weeks for vacation, anything worth hitting down there?

Big Island looks like its about an hour away from where I'm staying, but its only 20 min from where I'll be playing golf at Mauna Kea, so I'll hit it up after golf.

Big Island is definitely worth a stop. Hit up Humpy's in Kona. I'm guessing they have the most taps on the island.

I'm hoping for some Red Sea of Cocao bottles when I'm in Hawaii for the new year. A little off topic but has anyone had anything good about some of the smaller local breweries like Lanikai, Kailua or Waikiki?

Also go to Kona Brewing in Kona. Great beer on tap and excellent pizza. Wish I was there NOW!!

I would go to Kona Brewing too. This is about the time they have barrel aged versions of Pipeline Porter and Da Grind Buzz Coffee Imperial Stout. I would love to try those.

Red Sea was supposedly distributed last week, should be on the shelves soon. I would think there would still be some around, it sat on the shelves for a while here during the last distro, which was great for me, because I like it a lot. Easily one of my favorite beers brewed here. When I was going back and fourth to Seattle, I had one of the bar tenders at Chuck's ask for one. Brought it to her and she was really happy, shared it with all her coworkers, they loved it too.

Love me some Red Sea. I'll have to have my parents bring some over when they visit for Christmas.

Just moved to Waimea on Saturday, but have yet to go to Big Island this week. I've been there before, but haven't had the Red Velvet. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll get some tomorrow!

I'm on the Hilo side, Kamuela Liquor Store in Waimea probably has some of the best selection! Check the dates on the IPA's though, some outdated beers.

Hope they made their Mac Nut Brown again. Had it last Christmas and it was another good one.

Yeah, why is it you can't find an IPA here that's less than 2 months old, even from local breweries? Right now, pretty much any IPA you find was canned or bottled in August or early September. It would be nice to find some fresh IPAs once and a while, other than at the breweries.

The bottled stuff from Kona is actually from the mainland, which doesn't help. Maui Brewing should be fresher, but I think most people just don't care enough. Least that's what it's seemed like when I've visited.

Interesting, I figured the bottled stuff from Kona was from here. What about the "seasonal" releases? They say they are only available here.

FYI, this is probably the longest thread I've seen on Hawai'i, that isn't solely about where to go while on vacation. We're movin' up!

I don't think they bottle anything on the island, just kegs. That's what I gather from reading their website at least.
