Ordered a 6.5 syphonless today. I was debating between that and a fastferment.

Anyone use this as their fermenter? It seems to have a nice accessory for dry hopping/fruit/wood chips too.

I'm looking forward to not cleaning the glass ones anymore.

I have the Fermonster, which I believe is essentially the same thing. I love it. So easy to clean, enough capacity that a blowoff isn’t always required, and best of all, you can set them up to do closed transfers.

That's what I'm excited about too, but doesn't the trub flow out with the beer with the spigot being so close to it?

I have one of those. The tap looks low but leaves 2.45L behind without tilting it, if you don’t put too much break material in there at the start you shouldn’t have a problem only be transferring clear beer.

The lid categorically will not seal if wet, which it is after sanitising, that is a problem. I still use it for stouts and such but prefer to do hoppy styles in an FV that I know is airtight.

Empty some in a cup before attaching the hose then transfer slowly.

I have one. It's flimsy garbage. I prefer my speidel.

Ive read that too, but a few modifications will do the trick to keep the lid down.

Or buy a fermenter that works.

Making brewing difficult and making poor choices is what I'm all about.

I have a big mouth and a fermonster. I prefer the monster for the spigot and it's tougher than the big mouth.

In the end, buckets for me, seem best.

Enough snark, here are the reasons I hate my big mouth and would have given it to you if you paid shipping on it...
First, it is very flimsy. The plastic is thin and flexible, making the potential for accidental penetration or scratching very likely. Mine scratched with the use of paper towel and pro brewer wash.
Second, it has no handles. So in order to move it you need to pick it up from the bottom. Not a problem, except that when you pick it up, and it is thin and flimsy, you squeeze it and get an inevitable gush of sanitizer out and the inevitable suck back after setting it down.
Third, it's proprietary shape makes it impossible to use a carboy sling to carry it in lieu of putting handles on it. Using a milk crate involves the piece of shit leaning against the crate and your chest, which leads to expulsion of sanitizer.
Fourth, the bung hole in the lid is narrow and slick, this disallows insertion of a drilled stopper in wet or even humid conditions.
Lastly, it's overall height makes it awkward to fit into chest freezers, and who needs an out of control fermentation?
I regret having wasted the cash on mine every time I see it gathering dust in my basement. I much prefer my speidel, which has a thick plastic body, a deep bung hole with grip, handles, and a well sealed spigot. I prefer my wine making bucket over all of my fermenters, as it meets all of my needs.

They make great display jars for a Pez collection. That's what my daughter did.

I have a 6.5 gal ported BMB and it works for me, but I am upgrading to a BrewBucket soon. I've used an old BrewHauler to move/lift it. For me, a plastic ported carboy has worked well but I agree that it is flimsy.

Just got it delivered today, it is flimsy as has been noted. I've read that if you flip the gasket around so the thicker ridges are on the bottom you won't have any issues with the lid popping off.

I'll probably pick up the custom harness for it seeing how you guys said it is difficult to carry.

Doing a NEIPA next weekend, so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks for the feedback, probably should have asked before I bought it though.

When I got mine I was super excited, but after using it a couple times it really pissed me off.

Mine is like an old girlfriend that I caught banging my buddy. I run into her every now and again, and I love to show off my new speidel to her, but if anyone else wants to check her out, well I owe them a warning. :grimacing:

I will say it is easy to Dry hop with, and if you can put the damned thing somewhere it won't have to move from then you are good.
