Looks like the organizers are really stepping up their game for the events leading up to Pittsburgh's biggest beer festival. http://www.post-gazette.com/stories...f-events-for-steel-city-big-pour-week-649156/ Hopefully my sarcasim came across there. All I have to say is WOW. I just dont get it. Dont get me wrong I love this beer fest, but this will be the first year that I have no desire to attend. That mostly has to do with the $75 price per person. If this trend continues, in 3 more years it will be over $100 to attend this. Now in grand fashion the lineup of events leading up to the fest was announced. Six samplings and a wing night. Way to build off the momentum that Pittsbugh Craft Beer week created. Ive written in this forum before about my own dissapointment with such events having the feeling that my taste and experience with craft beer was more advanced than the city that I live in. Now I just feel like the city and event promoters, is regressing. Thoughts??
This might get more response in the Mid-Atlantic forum. Maybe the mods can move it for you. I agree that 75 is pretty pricy for a 3hour tasting session. Also, the events listed for the week are pretty week. I have no intentions of attending any of it.
WEAK...looks like Bocktown is the only one getting in the spirit. $75 for the Big Pour is a no go for me.
I assumed that this article was just an "events we know about as of this date" type thing...if this is all the region is doing, ugh...a typical Wednesday in Philly has more events...
I've moved beyond getting worked up about the lack creativity put into Pittsburgh events. Craft Beer Week was a fluke rather than a shift towards bigger and better things for the area. This is a bit of short notice but the IPA Jam at the Cranberry Mad Mex today has an absolutely stellar lineup. This is the type of event that should be happening in this region at least on a semi-regular basis.
Working on something for the House. Won't be the scope of the sours tasting, but should be cool nonetheless.
Yep, doing a small tasting (around 20 seats) of some of our highest priced stuff - basically the stuff that looks awesome but folks don't want to pull the trigger on without trying it first. Working out the details, but should be around 10 pours for $15. Sept. 6
That would be great. I have a few questions. Dave announced (or whoever is doing the twitter) that tickets are going on sale tomorrow. I have a few engagements tomorrow, but will try like hell to get tickets to this. I need to be there. Do you have any idea what time and how the tickets are going on sale? I won't even worry about the lineup, because I am guessing it will be 10x better than anything you get at Big Pour.
They should start selling at opening, 11am. You can call with a credit card & reserve them, if you can't swing by in person. And while I appreciate your enthusiasm, don't expect to shit your pants over this. We plan on having some good stuff (Mikkeller, Evil Twin, Hoppin' Frog, Stillwater, et al.), but it won't be "10x better" than Big Pour - just an affordable crack at tasting some higher end stuff. And if all goes well & there seems to be enough interest, we're going to try doing it on a monthly basis.
By 10x better than Big Pour I am referring more to value than anything. Still haven't gotten over the first time I saw the whole $75 thing.
http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/56478 The Post-Gazette has yet to add it to their on-line calendar.
