I will be in Big Sky the first week of April for some Spring Skiing. Any recommendations for good breweries, bottle shops or tap rooms near there. Does Melvin distribute anywhere near there? I'm still looking to try some Melvin. I will have a car and willing to travel a little. Thx and Cheers.
MAP Brewing in Bozeman is awesome. They're making really great hoppy brews and the taproom/brewery is one of the coolest I've been to, very Montana-esque
There are 2 breweries in big sky. Lone peak and beehive basin, never been to either. Bozeman has a few good breweries MAP, Bridger brewery, Bozeman brewing are my favorites there. I think the two bottleshops are vino per tutti and craft beer cellar. I think wine gallery might carry some beer also. Since your probably driving through billings I would highly suggest stopping at überbrew and might as well hit carters across the street. Enjoy Big Sky it's a fun town and resort with unreal snowboarding...or skiing.
Don't bother looking for Craft Beer Seller, they went out of business somehow in a college town. Other than that I'm not too familiar with bottle shop specific stores in Bozeman. I would try Town and Country, and Gourmet Cellar. I think Roxy's Market in Big Sky also has a great beer selection. You could also head over the hill to Ennis and check out Willie's Distillery (not beer I know but still worth the trip!). The Breweries drinkin-beeers mentioned are solid. If you are feeling adventurous in your travels through the eastern side of the state you could swing into Sidney MT and check out the Meadowlark Pub House. They are one of the newer breweries in the state, Teddy Roosevelt American Badass IPA is pretty good! Edit: I forgot to mention, Katabatic Brewing in Livingston is worth your time. You could also swing down to Red Lodge on HWY 212 for Red Lodge Brewing.
If you're driving from MI you gotta drive through Billings which means you have to stop at Uberbrew. They won more medals than any other breweries at GABF in 2016 and they make by far the best hoppy beers in MT. They are right up there with Melvin when it comes to hops. Pretty sure they won IIPA at GABF in 2016 and Alpha King in 2015 (2nd to Tamarack in 2016) Plus, their brewpub is a wonderful spot. Beehive is decent. Great little spot with a cool vibe and a cool crew. Their darker beers are usually their best offerings. Pale beers always taste a bit messy and had a Double IPA last time there that was a complete diacetyl bomb. Definitely shouldn't have been serving it in my opinion. Need to try MAP again. I don't think they had their system totally dialed in when I was there last.
Uberbrew is bomb. Can't wait to go toe to toe again at alpha king and the GABF. McGirt Melvin Brewing
Yeah you gotta stop at überbrew. I am in Billings for the weekend and stopped by Friday and today. The hoppy beers are on point. Juice weasel, amora and grandmaster smash we're all legit. The stout and coffee brown were really good as well.
