This batch #5 maibock from WI Brewing has jettisoned toward the top of the list for this seasonal offering. At least for the regionals here. The old stand-by's from Schells and Summit are always appreciated but I'm quite pleased that Wisconsin has stepped up it's Maibock game here. Anyone in agreement here?
When I saw that Kirby was brewing a Maibock I knew I had to try it -- and I wasn't disappointed. As you say, there are good Maibocks in the Midwest (including Kirby's alma mater; Capital), but I think you're right in calling this one the new contender for tops of the style. It has the right balance of sweet, bready malts and dry alcohol pepperiness. I'll look forward to this one each spring.
Thanks for the info as I am not a huge Maibock fan. My father covets them and he is in WI this week asking me to help him select a bunch of beer to bring back to SD. I will force him to buy a case of this Maibock.
