You're pretty jaded for someone who has hasn't rated any beers and never been to a beer fest before.

This is Big TEXAS Beer Fest. While tons of great out of state breweries come, the TX breweries are always the highlight as they always bring one off kegs and casks and make the event what it is. If you can't find anything to get excited about in a list of 500+ beers, I feel sorry for your trading budget.

I actually just finished going through the full list with some detail, I have way to many things I want to try:

    12 Must tries
25 I really want to try
    19 I wish I could get to
17 more I would try if time/sobriety were of zero consequence

That is 73 I want to drink, I won't do anywhere near that, but I wish I could. I have had many of them, but that doesn't mean I don't another pour of Abyss, KBS, Sucaba, Velvet Merkin, BCBS, BCBCS, Ivan the Terrible....this list is phenomenal!!!

My thoughts exactly. 2015er already posting like he's been around here for years.

You'll fit right in here, kid (Persdawg).

Jaded is a nice description. A tad harsh. But nonetheless nice.
My only comment to that is that I've drank a lot and spent a lot of cash in this niche (just like everybody else), and I just figured this particular fest owed me. Yep. It owed me one offs from all the heavy hitters. It owed me 120, not 90, etc.

I've been here in spirit with you guys for years.
I get you need to protect the house and call out the non-raters. All good.
Although I've rated my fair share on a certain app.

Anyways, there are definitely some interesting things out there on the list and it will grow on me...some of these other guys just seem a little patronizing.
The Austin untapped list is actually a pretty similar story at half the number of beers.
Just kind of a general, subtle dig at this part of the country. Kind of the minor leagues here ITO.
And the fact that this festival is so green probably has something to do with it too.

Either way, it will be a blast.

Please read up on OpenTheTaps and their awesome work, along with countless others around the state, looking to enact legislation enabling more breweries to bring in rare and unique stuff into the state for festivals. As it stands many festivals in the state of Texas are unable to cellar their own beer for extended amounts of time will have similar lists of available beers as a consequence.

For my .02 - KBS, MvB, BCBCS, BA ten Fidy, Sucaba would be highlights at most festivals around the nation. Go looking not to try a list of 100 of the greatest beers in the world, but to have a taste of some news ones, maybe revisit some old ones, and most importantly be social and meet some awesome folks who are every bit as into Craft as you as well as being an open conduit to others in the crowd not as savvy as you.

"I just figured this particular fest owed me"

Wow, that's one of the most pretentious things I have ever read on this site, and that includes the JK entitlement discussions.

I'm glad we're to the point where we even have BCBS & KBS at BTBF (my fourth), because I remember a time when we didn't. And it's well run events like this one that will continue to help get even more beers here. Minor leagues it is not, and certainly not green. This is a very well run event with a great beer list.

There is probably less than 30 beers (excluding the new breweries and one off firkins) that I have never had on that list. So I'll skip the KBS, BCBCS, etc. so that others who have not had them might get a chance to try them. I'll spend my time trying out the new guys in town, talking to the guys who actually make the beer instead of a volunteer for some other regions brewery. Might even revisit some beers I haven't had in a while. And I just might find something made local that's better than some other hype machine.

You bet it'll be a blast, hope you get to slay your whale.

It is probably the best run festival in the state. I am 100% happy with the list. You cannot go into a beer festival in TX and expect to get some crazy things that you have never seen due to the laws.

I also don't go into these festivals only looking for whales. You will just be standing in line the whole time. I am driving up from Austin and this festival has too many DFW breweries that have just opened and I have never had. I am content just going to all of those and seeing which new breweries I like. Much easier than driving to each one of them and ordering a flight.

OK. After scouring the list again, and having a better understanding of things, I'm probably most psyched and about a couple of the local offerings. And the sucaba and bb 10-fidy of course.
The initial issue I had was the fact that outside of the newest, new local breweries, I've easily had 75% of the offerings.
And to me, paying $55 to sample things I've already had multiple times didn't make sense because I was only focused on the beers and not the atmosphere. Thanks for helping shift my thinking here...will change the experience.
Another cog in this wheel is that wifey just won't drink anything, so she's got to have the distinct offerings to make it worth her time. She doesn't research beer or even have an idea what that is, so I've just got to upsell here on some things and she'll never know the difference. Outside of my wallet...I should be thankful she even likes to do this stuff with me.
No harm, no foul if you want to rip me for anything in this thread. Cheers.

lol. The troll is strong. I like it.
Listen, this particular subforum is pretty slow anyways.
With the growing quality in this state/area, this place should have more traction.

Jealous of all you guys getting to go. I will be coaching my son's soccer team and entertaining my parents from out of town this weekend. Will have to do a better job of planning for next year.

You mean to tell me this fest doesn't cater to the tickers that make up a fraction of a percent of the beer drinking population?

Let us also not forget, city dwellers, that a festival like this will attract the poor saps who don't live in the metro areas. Sorry your distribution is so good, I've maybe had 25% of the beers listed, and I'd say at least 2/3 of the breweries listed aren't available within a 150 mile radius.

I am also going because there are about 10 DFW breweries on there that I have never had.

I didn't think we would be getting any posts in here until at least noon. A couple friends of mine went, and their check-ins looked like they were in for a rough morning.

I had a great time as usual there. First time I've had Collective Brewing and the Golden Petite Sour was delicious.

Lakewood was a highlight for me. Those wine barrel aged beers were tasty!
