Picked up a 4pk this afternoon and just had one with dinner. I must say, damn good stuff.

    Anyone else tried this yet?

Tried it on tap at Pizza Luce a few days ago. Very tasty. What's a 4-pack run? I imagine it's in the realm of Abrasive.

I hope it's better than their coffee beer, I was underwhelmed with that.

I believe that I paid $14.99 at Rum River. Well worth it, very good stuff.

Good snow yetis. What the hell is with new breweries thinking they can charge an obnoxious premium for their beer? Seriously out of hand.

I've been wondering that too. Is it to pay for the extra hops or to capitalize on the D/IPA hype?

bigger beers cost more to make and new breweries probably aren't rolling around in money to sell it at a lower margin. if the beer is truly as good as everyone says, I will have no problem buying it every so often. bought TONS of abrasive this year. but if it isn't super great, probably won't buy again.

True- i wont touch the coffee stout at the $11 price point. Its solid, but not worth that money.

I havent tried the BadAxe, but why when you can get DoubleTrouble, Mercenary, Illumination , etc for 9.99 a 4pk? Market is rough and putting your beer in the same format and price as Surly is a mistake for a new brewery, IMO.

I suppose they figure better to price it too high then come down(though I doubt they will) then the other way around.

I think it was a brewery "Out West" that started the whole upscale pricing on 4pack Pounders of Craft Beer. Actually, they weren't very far west at all, and Big Wood is brewed further west. Hmm.

Oh well, since the precedent has already been set, I'd say drink up and enjoy!

Lift Bridge six packs are affordable, though not as big. Ditto Indeed. And plenty of 'newer' breweries across the river in Wisconsin are managing to put out a good, affordable product.

I just don't buy that argument. Perhaps it is just their cost of doing business, but if that's true, these breweries need a better accountant, purchasing agent, or something. Others all over the country are making good/big beers at lower costs. I've made the argument before, but if a bunch of us dumb beer geeks think it's too expensive, what're the chances of Joe Blow picking up a four-pack? Close to zero. They're shooting themselves in the foot & severely limiting the market for their product. After the initial rush of 'us' buying up four-packs, I guartantee you'll see three-month old four-packs of this beer languishing on the shelves within six months.

I will start by saying I'm often guilty of getting worked up over price before actually breaking it down. But for the sake of argument, I would point out that the 4pk 12 oz. bottles you mentioned are $0.21 an ounce and Big Wood's 16 oz. cans are $0.23 an ounce.

I hear ya- I guess i dont really give credit for extra 4oz per can when consuming. I also realize that if Big Wood put this beer in a bomber at $.23 an ounce($5.06) people would be raving at how 'cheap' it is. For me, 12oz vs. 16oz are both 'servings', I would opt for the slightly small serving at a seemingly cheaper price.

They are, except for the main one I would want to consume- Hop Dish runs about $11-12 most places I believe.

Folks probably already grasp this, but I likely hold my beer dollars a littler closer to the bank then most. I've been at this for a good while, have spent the big $$ on obscure/rare/new beers and have since moved on to getting the highest quality and quantity for my beer bucks.

Did Hopdish go up in price...haven't bought it in a couple months but over the winter I was getting it for 9.99 I'm pretty sure for a sixer

2 cents sounds small, but that's a 10% premium. How would you feel about a 10% paycut?
Plus, a 4pk of Hoptimum at $8.99 is going to win everytime.

I intend to do a tasting comparing all the current DIPAs on the market, I think I know what will win, but who knows. I wish Sucks was still fresh and abundant.

You'll be drinking a lot of DIPA -- I'm pretty sure that you will be winning, too! :grinning:
