Big wood did a lot of marketing, showed up at all the festivals and yucked it up with the drunkards. They've done a solid job of getting their name into the common beer drinker's vocabulary. They are reaping some of those benefits now, I believe. The beer simply doesn't live up to the commotion. Bad Axe has that unappealing bug spray sting and isn't in the same category as any other hoppy beer mentioned above, price notwithstanding.

This may be why I hate then so. They've been talking forever about their brewery which took forever to materialize, which was obviously named by the same junior high prodigy marketing group that brought us big Johnson T-shirts. Hate may be a strong word but for whatever reason I never really had a great impression of these guys.

Apparently thier junior high mojo rubbed off on third st with thier 3 way pale ale. Lame!

I liked the Bad Axe on draught. I think it's ok from the can. Not bad in my opinion. Hoptimumn may be a steal, but there is something I just don't like about most of SN's hop centric beers. Save for Celebration Ale, that shit is the shit. I'll never look down on a business for doing a bit of marketing and I may roll my eyes at the junior high humor of Big Wood, but a little cheek isn't really a bad thing. At the end of the day it's the product (beer) that matters. Lucette has some seriously good beer and some seriously bad, sexed up marketing/design for example. Hasn't stopped me from buying their shit though. Same goes for Big Wood. I'm not enamored with them, but Ive liked most of what I've had from them.

From the start I have hated the junior high, double entendre marketing B.S. but in the end have actually liked the beer.

Morning Wood is damn solid and have to laugh a little at all the positive BA comments it has got over the years after several of the fests only to be derided on here once it was released.

Had Bad Axe last night and enjoyed it too. Definately didn't get bug spray out of the experience and while not in the same league as Abrasive or Sucks I will drink it again.

I actually see a fair amount of Big Word on tap in my future. The price points on the canned offerings is a little aggressive but in the end the market will sort that out.

I just had Bad Axe last night. Its good, but nothing special. I probably wont buy it again based on the cost/goodness ratio. It didnt have any off flavors. Its actually nicely balanced, but I just dont care for the hop profile.

Morning wood doesnt compare to the new Coffee Bender IMO either. Just pay the extra $2 for a much better coffee beer. I want to like big wood, but havent found a reason yet.

All I could taste smell was bug spray. Glad I got a sample and not a full pour.
