Oh man, there's a place near me that is just like this. I used to go in and ask what beers come in pints and they would say "why don't you just order the beer that you want?" Uh maybe because I don't want to order an enjoy by and have it come out in an 8 oz snifter and be charged 10 bucks for it?!

FWIW, my store did their release today instead of Friday...?
I'd agree, but it's my local shop, and the owner usually does right by me - I suspect that if the GI rep weren't there, it would have gone differently.
True dat... :flushed: ...and I am looking forward to the Regal Rye and BA TenFidy... :sunglasses:

    Cheers, fellas...

I see this happening more and more lately, definitely urks me. It's not the consumers fault that the crap shelf beer doesn't sell.

You are quire correct there are some success stories, but what drives me up the wall about the one's that are not successful, for example, pass a diacetyl laden beer off as 'professional made beer.'

My biggest peeve is the recent price increases. It is getting out of hand - in my opinion. $10.00 for a six pack and more $15.00 plus 4 packs showing up is too much. The latest Sierra Nevada bomber series was over $20.00 each where I live and the reviews were not so hot. People need to start voting with their feet.

I can see how in the current environment (where everything is a special release...) that this approach to releases could be troublesome. There was, however, a time and place for it I think. One of my favorite local shops that closed about 5, 6 years back, took this approach. They had two or three clipboards at the cash register with sign up lists for upcoming releases (today you'd need 40 or better clipboards...). You'd put down your name and contact info so they could call you to pick up your beer. If you didn't make it in within a week ( they would take excuses, like out of town) then the beer would be offered to whomever was on the list but missed out, or offered to the general public if the list was exhausted. I always loved that approach, but again, keeping up with it would be monumental nowadays.

I'm certain that there's a special place in hell reserved for vendors that let their beer get lightstruck and/or don't rotate stock. I'm sick and tired of seeing best by dates that are two months past.

Restaurants are a tough business. Profit wise they might be in the red. Probably had to raise their prices and skimp on certain things or face having to shut down one day soon

I didn't mind it at all when they would do it once or twice a year for, say, bourbon county and kbs. But for every single limited release? It's just too much

In the late '60s, I was fairly well known among my friends for preferring "weird" beers ---IPA, Porter, Bock, Mäerzen, and "Stingo"(when I could get it).

I left NJ for a few years for college in Storm Lake, Iowa (until the early/mid '70s) and during those years I had managed to convince the manager of the local grocery store
there to order some bock beer, which he very kindly did...and he even thanked me months later for suggesting it, because it turns out that it was a real hit with some of the local old-timers, who were buying a ton of it.
But I only told that story so I could tell the following "weird beer" one:
I brought some of the bock beer to a party (and was, of course, the only one drinking it) and one of my classmates (a farm raised Storm Lake native) chided me saying mockingly "...you shouldn't drink that stuff...it'll give you the shits!" (maybe he felt that way because he was one of the folks that truly believed the legend that bock beer was simply the dregs from the bottom of a whole year's worth of emptied barrels).
(though even if it were, I'd still drink it).

A buyer for a smaller, nice, national grocery chain once told me he didn't need any "froo-froo " beers. I had presented Aventinus, Franziskaner, Spaten and other notable beers, mostly imports (late 90s-early 00s). It took them about 10 more years to see the "light". These days hearing about anything as "froo-froo" is a bit annoying., especially beer.

When I order a 2IPA, and I get a snifter half full for $7 or $8. I realize that the high ABV dictates craft bars do this, but I want a freaking pint!
