Although uninformed bartenders could be a benefit sometimes.

I was at a restaurant recently with my wife for dinner. When the waitress took our drink order, I told the her that I wanted an imperial stout (10.5% ABV) that they had on the menu. Totally expecting it to be served in a 10 oz tulip like most restaurants, I raised my eyebrows when she asked "Would you like that in a tall or regular?" Trying to contain my excitement, I told her I wanted a tall and then handed the car keys to my wife as the waitress walked away. Unfortunately, she came back with a tulip and told me the bartender said they couldn't serve that beer in a tall. What I would have given for an uninformed bartender in that instance.

That's fantastic! I haven't been anywhere near that lucky.

A local store didn't have BA Ten Fidy priced correctly last year, so the uninformed clerk charged the guy the rate for one can for a 6 pack of it. The guy buying the beer ended up buying 2 6 packs for around $20. I remember hearing that story from one of the other stores of that franchise I frequented and was a little disappointed I hadn't swung by that store. Then again, I'm not sure if I could live with myself. Suppose that's enough booze to wash away the regret multiple times over though.

Taste is subjective. Generally speaking, everyplace has bad something. I'd be shocked to find any consensus that virtually any place has "nothing bad" on their menu - whether that's a bar, a brewery, a pub, or a restaurant. Everything from a bad formulation to a bad day (for baking, brewing, cooking, etc.), to...

Everyone tries to go to places that have good food, and everyone tries to buy only things they will enjoy. That's just how we operate. No one tries to buy something bad. Sometimes it just is. Personally, I send anything back at a restaurant that is bad. I'm not paying for their mistake. At a brewery - I don't buy anything without trying a sample first. I don't like every style. I'm not paying $8 for something that I might not like or might be downright bad.

Yeah, ethically it's a slippery slope I suppose. I'd never try to sneak a KBS in a pick six, but I sleep okay at night getting undercharged for a beer. I've also been out at bars (typically chain bars or at least not beer geek bars) that do large pours on BA stouts and charge the generic craft price.... think BCBS 16oz for $7. I'm not going out of my way to convince them to charge me more.

I don't really mind the few mouse clicks to type in a birth date though I don't think that requirement actually deters anyone who wants to enter the site. It's surprising how many will allow access to someone born on January 1, 1900.

I'm very sure you go to places that people that aren't you would still find the food or beer sub par. Your tastes aren't everybody's. Judging people for leaving beer or food behind is just silly and equating it to some sort of juvenile activity is beyond dumb. Same for the people who think slugging back a beer they hate is somehow manly or whatever other macho nonsense.

January 1 is a given, but for not feeling old I go with some of the last decades of the 20th century.

As long as I continue to get older I don't care about the number.

This argument is becoming circular, but I'll certainly agree that I can't speak for everyone. That said, if you go to the places that I go and you can't find something good both on the menu and on tap, you are a fucking moron. That cannot be argued.

But you do understand that there are places that are more consistent than others, right? Both in their execution and in appealing to their customers.

If it's their mistake, sure, don't finish it or send it back. However, if you just don't like it because you didn't know what it was OR, more likely in my example, you just weren't hungry enough to eat the entire serving, then that's on you.

That's certainly fair, but, again, it's on the consumer if they order something that they don't like or aren't sure if they're going to like.

It can be argued because you are using what you like to apply to everyone. If you can't understand how this is flawed...

Being able to find something good is not the same as what you first implied, which was that everything is good. You also can't sample everything to know that it's good. So, sometimes you try to find something good, and you end up with something bad. That's kind of the point.

You're now conflating "what I like" with "things that are demonstrably of good quality". If you go to a Mexican restaurant that is of excellent quality but you don't like Mexican food, that's on you, not on the restaurant.

No, the point is that when people go to a place that has both beer and food that they like, but they choose to leave half finished plates of food and half drank glasses of beer, they are wasting food and/or beer and that is infantile. There are people starving somewhere FOR GOD'S SAKE!

Whenever someone would say something about someone not finishing up the food on their plate, my grandmother would hand the plate to them and say: "box it up and send it to them then" :joy:

Or when the "seasonal" is no longer in their system and they fiddle around with papers for 15 minutes only to tell you that they don't know what the price is and won't sell it to me.

Never used that to motivate my kids, btw. Mostly it was just, "You done with that? Give it to me if you're not going to finish it, then." I'd like to do that to people in public, really, but I don't think the wife would be on board with that.
