Black Raven just posted on FB that the Birdserker Triple IPA release is this Saturday. Cut and paste: A few years ago we were challenged to make a new style of beer, a triple IPA. What the hell is a triple IPA anyway? Is it a young barley wine or a super imperial IPA? Well whatever it is, we accepted the challenge and dove headlong into experimentation. After a few meetings, many constructive arguments and a few too many beers we had the recipe for our hoppiest beer ever, BIRDSERKER! This year’s release uses a blend of Apollo, Bravo, Nugget, Comet, Cascade and Chinook hops to achieve huge hop flavor and aroma. This hop monster weighs in at over 10% ABV and almost 100 IBUs thanks to 140lbs of hops! A limited supply of bottles will be available at the taproom, limit 4 per customer per day.
Should probably post this in a separate thread (but I'm lazy), but was at Pint Defiance on Sunday, and they had bottles of a new TIPA from 3 Magnets. Twas only $10, so I grabbed a bottle (as I've been favorably impressed with all the IPA's I've had from them). Haven't cracked it open yet, but was wondering if anyone has tried it and what their thoughts about it are.
Haven't tried it but Chuck's 85th has it on tap right now if anyone is interested. I too have enjoyed their other hoppy offerings.
I had a bottle of this the other night, my first from them actually, as they've just come onto my radar (belatedly, I'll admit). I thought it was pretty good, but not great, and mostly because the alcohol seemed to overwhelm everything else a little. At 12.5%, this one is no slouch, in fairness. Still, compared to some of the other big-hitting TIPAs (or Uber DIPAs, depending on your persuasion) I've thoroughly enjoyed, like Blimey, Notorious, Triple Trifecta, Waldo's, RuinTen, to name a handful, I felt like this one was a definite step below. It's worth trying certainly, but, to me, a work in progress.
