Hi there, I'm passing through Alabama and will be in Birmingham for one night. Any recs for excellent food and better beer? Thanks!
Not sure if you already passed through town but check out this guide for Birmingham. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/beer-guide-to-birmingham-al.490811/
Avondale Sour room is a great choice and you can grab take out from Wasabi Juan's or Saw's soul food. Good People and Trim Tab are great choices as well. For shopping i hit up Hop City and Piggly Wiggly. Don't doubt the pig, as they had Mexican Cake on tap for growler fills.
Rather than make an entirely new post, I thought that I would just add to this one: I am heading to Birmingham next week, and I'll be there for more or less the entire week. I'm looking for recommendations on a couple things: Is there anything - specifically regarding stouts and BA stouts - that are in Distro down here that I would not have access to back home in Indiana? Willing to drive about 3 hours 1 way in any direction if needed. I've reviewed the link in the post above and plan to visit hop city. Are there any places that do crowlers? Related to #1 above, is there anyplace that I should be visiting that is not in birmingham that is within 3 hours away that I should visit? E.g., is there anything out in Atlanta that I'd want to drive out for? Any well rated mead I should be on the hunt for for my wife? Thanks in advance!
Within 3 hours there are quite a few options Bearded Iris being one. For ba stout depending on your trades I may have a mole or ba el gordo from good people
Local BA stouts available in Birmingham include Fairhope Kingslayer, Straight to Ale BBA and Cabernet Laika, and you may be able to trade for some Good People BA El Gordo. We also have Hoppin Frog Boris, Eclipse Fifty Fifty, and now recently Prairie stouts available here. A 2hr drive to Atlanta would open you up to more options. Hop City does growlers and pints. Good People Brewing and Cahaba Brewing are the only places that do crowlers in Birmingham. For Atlanta, I'd recommend Hop City Krog Street and Porter Beer Bar. They get distribution of Wicked Weed, Burial, and Creature Comforts. And Porter has great food. Hop City in Birmingham has a B. Nektar and Moonlight meads. They likely have more, I just rarely check that isle.
Thanks for the additional information. If anyone has any Skillet Donut to trade here in Birmingham or anywhere nearby, let me know. (I don't even know if it hits distro or is brewery only.) I would love to get a single can to try even if i can't get more than 1. Have a friend who always makes me jealous that I haven't tried it.
