Today is my 32nd birthday and my old man gave me $25 to buy 'good beer'. Any suggestions on what I could find (fort collins area) that would meat his criteria??? PS- I like stouts, wouldn't spend $$ on sours, and am open to anything else that may be interesting.
Any chance FW Stickee Monkey is still hanging around those parts? The FW boxes used to linger longer than most places over at Wilbur's.
If you're looking to spend the $25 on one really good bottle of stout and want to stick w/ a CO brand, I'd say AC Golden Cytat. Despite its association w/Coors, that beer has yet to disappoint. I rarely buy it because $23ish is a bit high for what I generally spend on a single bottle regardless of size, but with BDay $ I would. For the money I would rather have it than Rasputin anniversary or most of the FiftyFifty Eclipses (Four Roses may be the exception), and it's about even w/BA Biscotti Break which isn't around right now anyway. And definitely over Odell Woodcut #7, for $20 that beer was sad and plain. There's probably dozens more beers in that price range that are good options, but for the beers I know are on the shelf, that's the one that immediately came to mind
Happy Birthday! Maybe give an Eclipse a try, I've never been willing to throw down the cash, but in your case it's free money
Love the recommendations, fellas. Right now my order would be: 1) Stickee Monkey 2a) Cytat 2b) Eclipse I may even just crack the 2013 Black Ops I have and grab one of the above to store for next years birthday!
Stickee Monkee is a no brainer if it's available. I second the Cytat, this year's batch is incredible and it amazes me that it hasn't vanished from the shelves. If I remember correctly they aged the beer for 2 years in bourbon barrels which is typically unheard of. That extra aging made it pretty smoooooooth.
Speak of the devil - looks like the Mayor has Stickee Monkee available according to the book of the face.
a little birdy told me where to find that Stickee in Loveland. The clerk asked me if I needed help after looking for a bit, and he said they keep it behind the counter (1/person). He even put it at the register while I made another selection ($16.99 each)... ended up with one of these as well- http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14/21436/ as a reformed Phish-head, I couldn't resist. Put me about $5 over budget... Couldn't be happier about it though!
Sorry I did a horrible job with reading comprehension in this thread. You clearly don't care for sours and already got your stickee. Happy birthday man and enjoy.
quality suggestion, although I just got back from the urgent care and am not gonna be drinking any beer on this birthday... it's been literally 17 years since I didn't drink beer on my birthday. FML.
That sucks man! Sorry to hear that. When u get better, you need to find a bar that has some Alpine Hoppy Birthday.
For $11 or $12 I was REALLY happy with YouEnjoyMyStout. Wonderful beer and a great price for 22oz of BA Stout
