Wow...I've never paid more than $10.

    BB1 - $14 (Austin)
    BB2 - don't remember the price, so I won't quote anything
BB4 - $13 and served in a shaker pint glass (Houston)
    BB5 - $13 + a food purchase (Houston), $10 (Houston)

gave up trying to find these after that. Not a big fan of having to rush out on a weeknight and drink a beer by myself and/or diverting an entire group of friends to a specific bar just so I can try a beer they may or may not still have by the time I get there. Now if I run across them in my travels I drink them - but obviously from the fact that I didn't get any BB6 or 7 that hasn't been working out too well for me...

Really wish I could have gotten to try BB6... pumpkinator in rum barrels sounds like heaven, but oh well...

I understand SA's arguments for why they release it this way, but I do agree with some others that they need to put in some kind of price controls - a lot of places that aren't big on beer, but keep "local" on draft or in bottles always wind up with a case or two and just gouge their consumers on them.

Either way, excited to hear DR15 is on the way! Keep the good stuff flowing!

Didn't get a chance to have it fresh but I had it a few months later at the brewery and while it was a good idea, I didn't get enough rum character. The bourbon barrel pumpkinator was heavenly though. Best pumpkin beer I've ever had IMO.

Anybody else know of a brewery that releases anything the way SA does with the BB series?

I seriously have to tone it down.

Looks like we will be doing a couple events for this one here at the FW Saucer with the help of Bennette.

Jan12th or 13th (depending on actual delivery date from BEK)- BB8 package
    Jan26th or 27th (again delivery date) - DR15 draft

Sometime in February we will be doing the trilogy (DR5, DR15, & BB8) with the date TBD

Oh and again later in February we will be celebrating Endeavors anniversary with a firkin and some other awesome vintage DR's (we have a case of 5-14 minus 9 in house).

First, to be fair, you'd have to identify a Texas brewery that bottles its smaller-batch barrel-aged stuff that has anywhere close to the following that Saint Arnold does. Since that doesn't really exist, yours is a hard question to answer.

But, Jester King limits 3000 bottle count releases to limit-1 so they last for several weekends - ostensibly to put the beer in the hands of the most people possible - and many on this forum seem to be overjoyed with that idea, so I would say this is kind of like the brewery version of that concept.

I did not limit my question to Texas breweries.

That's fair, I should have said breweries in states where they are not able to sell to-go. Which I think is still a pretty narrow universe, but I don't claim to be well versed on all 50 states' liquor laws. I have traveled a decent bit though, and seems like most states allow breweries to sell their own bottles how they please.

    I don't know about that...

I took a look at what I spent last year in the name of "good beer" and I have some sticker shock. I also definitely need to tone it down...

The bottom line is that there are plenty of great beers out there (at least ones that my palate enjoys) that can be bought for $8 a sixer... while I will still continue to enjoy the $13+ bottles, my enthusiasm for them has been tamed a little - I don't need to taste them all, and there will be another around the corner. I plan to still drink plenty of great beer, but until the economy decides that gas prices/barrel should be a little more in line with beer prices/barrel (cause that will happen ), I will be dialing it down.

Same here, but I don't want to know what I spent! EEEKK

I'll keep buying the expensive Prairie's, FW's, Deschutes, etc but will likely lay off the mass BB, FUN and BBH buying this year.

The usual suspects should be an influence but taking your own twist on them woul be great. Coffee, vanilla beans, maple syrup or use some molasses again. Get that glass staining mouthfeel. Or some kind of peppers/spice, that would be great.

I was being facetious. We've done all those you've listed as special casks.

Yeah, I remember having a pour of bb2 cask with brett in Denver, no idea why stuff like that really doesn't show up in Austin or San Antonio. It was awesome. It would be cool if you did stuff like that but bottled it.

But yeah they should totally tap stuff like that in ATX on the Tuesday :/
Sorry for the snark but few kegs and casks of the BB series are ever made
