Can anyone recommend another brew similar to Bitter Monk? bought the last bottle at the local shop and was very impressed with it. Thanks in advance and cheers.

I had them pretty far apart in time, but I don't think Shark Pants was anything like Bitter Monk. Isn't Shark Pants a red ale? Plus no brett.

Maybe Crooked Stave WWB Green. I have had both, definitely some similarities. Bitter Monk is much more complex though.

I would suggest another Anchorage brew: Love Buzz. While not an IPA, they share a lot of similarities and I thing you'd also enjoy that a lot as well.

Bullfrog makes a few good ones. Undead Ed and El Diablo Deluxe. Don't know how easy they are to find, but both worth a try if you can get your hands on them.

Dammit I have been looking for a Bitter Monk. If anyone knows a place in the LA area that still has them let me know please.

Hmm, that's actually a really tough question. I could easily recommend some great Belgian IPAs (Houblon Chouffe!) or some great Brett beers (Leelanau Whaleback White!), but the combination of Brett and hops is fairly rare. Does Victory still make Wild Devil? That would probably be the closest, although it lacks the complexity of barrel aging.

Does Jolly Pumpkin make anything strong and hoppy?

Maybe Rayon Vert from Green Flash? A Belgian style pale ale with brett, though it may not be as hoppy or have the wine barrel influences.

I'm about 95% sure Wild Devil has been discontinued for awhile, though I can't find any information to back that up.

Yeah, I thought they got rid of that one, too. I'm sure any bottles that are left are funky as all hell, though. :grinning:

I managed to grab a couple bottles while I was down in PDX about 3 weeks ago, since Anchorage beers aren't distributed here yet. I don't know of any other beer like it, I didn't think Rayon Vert was very similar at all. My review says "Orval + Pliny" so maybe you could give that combination a try...

i had one last night, it definitely didn't remind me of bitter monk, waaay more brett and waay less hops. Rayon Vert was like an american version of orval for me.

I agree and others have compared it to orval in this forum so lets just say orval and rayon are pretty close. I mean there is A TON going on in that beer...there is nothing that actually taste like it, but I do think orval and rayon are similar. What other belgian pales finished with brett are there?
