I was told there is a dark beer event at Gordon's in Waltham in January. Before I buy tickets has anyone been to one of these tastings? Any feedback on how it was or what's going to be there this year?
These are normally worth going to. Good beers, some out of distro stuff, reasonable crowd size. I'd pull the trigger.
Agreed, I went 2-3 years back and they had a drawing for rarer stouts as well as samples of some great stuff
Their events are never disappointing and there is usually a very special keg available. Public transportation is easy if you can get to the 70 bus.
I found this almost complete list from last year if that helps you to decide. Obviously it will be different this year, but you'll get the idea.
This is what was in the email I got a couple of days ago regarding it: Black Beer Affair 2014 Friday January 24, 7-9pm This year’s edition of the tasting to end all tastings is just around the corner so, don’t miss out! Join us as we sample the greatest and rarest dark beers from around the world all in one epic night of barrel aged blackness! So far, the following beers are confirmed but, more are yet to be added: Hoppin' Frog BORIS Van Winkle Goose Island Bourbon County Backyard Rye Goose Island Bourbon County Stout De Struise Black Albert Allagash Midnight Brett Avery Uncle Jacob’s Stout Evil Twin Imperial Doughnut Break Jack’s Abby/Evil Twin Jack's Evil Brew Mikkeller Black Sap Fifty/FiftyEclipse Maker’s Mark Brooklyn Black Ops Off Color Scurry De Molen Hel and Verdoemenis '11 Stone Smoked Porter w/Vanilla Beans
Hey o. Thanks for your interest in the event. We just acquired a keg of Blackberry Albert from Struise and are still scouring the Earth, or at least New England, to get more tasty bits for the event.
Damn! Blackberry Black Albert sounds AWESOME, I've had the standard Black Albert and the Barrel Aged but not Blackberry. I'm definitely going!
I've been to all of their beer tastings over the last few years (I think) and definitely to all stout tastings, aka Black Beer Affairs. They're definitely worth it. Good vibe, great beers, and damn ass expensive rare cheeses And very often they add beers that are not, or not anymore, available in MA, from the store cellar, personal collections or whatnot. Pressure is on @Richard33
Just confirmed... Not only black berry Albert on draft but four other Black Albert variants (bottles) will be poured at the event. When I know which ones we're receiving, I'll update the list.
Just confirmed confirmed... We will be pouring and selling Black Damnation variants I, II, III, IV, and XII at Black Beer Affair!!!!
Another great event by Gordon's staff! So not to start another thread: your Beer Sharing events, are they now a monthly thing? I saw the sign on a way in, but forgot to check it on a way out.
We stopped our bottle shares around the holidays but plan on getting them rolling again in February. Keep an eye on our website for the next date. Probably around the end of this month. Thanks for coming, glad you enjoyed it.
