Taxes, distributor decisions on mark-up... it's possible that some locations don't have many beers over $10-12, so they don't want to throw a $16 beer on the shelf? I'll bet distributors are getting this for $6-8 a bottle, maybe a little more or less depending on how many they are buying.

    $16.99-ish in Wisconsin.

Prices differ from store to store, even if it's the same local store in different areas, because of the amount they order, more cases = bigger price break for customer, it's all about maintaining a profit margin.

Buy 6 for me too. The thing is a ghost in Ohio. I was at 2 places that had (1 still has a bunch) of Mirror Mirror, and they have not seen a single bottle. Maybe Deschutes is withdrawing after they saw how much beer we drink!

Did you see the best after date? 6/14/15 they recommend aging this beer at least 1 year.

Really? My wife and I actually make them a lot. Pretty common appetizer in our area. Although it gets better with crumbled bacon in them.

Huh? I could be wrong but is it Deschutes's way of saying - one can try it now if they want or choose to age this. I look at it as the brewery saying in their opinion, it's best after the date they stamped on the bottle. I'm no home brewer so there's a lot I don't understand about aging beers and making certain styles that can age properly. If anything, from what I've learned about this beer that comes out year after year is that people seek it out for a reason.

Also, it gets the consumer to buy more than one, as it's one to drink now and possibly drink one after the date of recommendation. Capitalism is a good thing and so is the marketing behind it.

Scored several bottles of Black Butte XXVI at Scalles in Carlisle, PA. The large distributors in the area have it as well.

I'll take that over Deschutes aging the beer on its premises for a year and then selling the bottles at a much higher price because it was just sitting around taking up space, that would be the dumbest thing ever.

^^^^^^dropping knowledge, I can be patient and have plenty of other beers to drink while I set my BB 26 in my cellar for a year or so, sorry some of you don't have deep cellars.....

Got two reserved at my local bottle shop. Can't wait to try it, although I guess I should wait a year based on the drink after date:confused:

I actually just grabbed one of the last 4 bottles of this at my local bottle shop along with a RuinTen and Unapologetic IPA. I'm looking forward to trying it and comparing notes to the version I've had on tap.
