A lot of relevant information in this article: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/lif...hp?t=8f1695672a438d9cbb&cmpid=twitter-premium My cliff's notes: "Highlights include a barrel-aged Ten Fidy imperial stout from Oskar Blues; 2014 and 2015 vintages of Double Pecan Porter from Austin's (512) Brewing; a tequila-barrel-aged Lime Ale from Sierra Nevada; Firestone-Walker's §ucaba and its 2014 Anniversary Ale; a 10-year-old Alaskan Smoked Porter; and the liqueur-like Samuel Adams Utopias that retails for $199 per copper-kettle-shaped resealable bottle. Sales will be limited, although the first 10 people in line will be rewardedwith larger limits. Last year's Black Friday event had people camping out overnight. About 300 were in line when Spec's opened at 10 a.m., and Cody expects another crowd this year. Instead of a $599 big-screen TV, the earlybirds can find a $59.99 bottle of Bourbon County's Rare Stout, aged in 35-year-old whiskey barrels, or the more affordable flagship stout for $9.99. The barleywine and coffee stout variations are $11.99. All are sold in individual 500-milliliter bottles. Bourbon County Brand Stout seems to be doing fine at the ballot box so far. John Johnson, executive vice president of Silver Eagle Distributors, said the wholesaler received about 1,500 cases of the beers for the Houston area, double the allocation from 2014. He said most retailers last year reported their stock sold out in under two days. In addition to the Spec's on Smith, the beers will be available in select H-E-B, Randalls and Kroger stores, with only a couple of other retailers getting any. Johnson said about 80 percent of the Bourbon County stock will be sold inside Loop 610. Those who don't want to drive to Spec's should call their local beer or wine manager to check on availability."
Also, it would seem that the variants Houston is getting are Reg, Coffee, Barleywine and Rare....no Regal
So let me get this straight, last year I could buy a 4-pack of BCBS and it's variants for $17 - $20 and this year they want me to pay $9.99 to $11.99 for a 500ml bottle? Thanks ABInBev, I will pass.
Crazy. Last year was the first time I got my hands on some and now it looks like it will also have been my last.
Obviously it's shitty, but these beers were way underpriced compared to similar beers before. I can't count the number of times I've seen/read "no thanks on (highly priced, perhaps hyped BBA stout), why would I buy that when I can get BCBS for $20/4 pack?" over the last few years.
I agree that the price for a 4-pack was a steal for the quality of product. But we are talking about 50% price increase on a product that they are probably able to make even cheaper as they ramp up production. Those fancy new bottles must be 'pensive!!! Still going to pass. To be fair, I was going to anyway in order to keep money out of AB's pockets.
I'd love to see the complete list of what's available and what the "rules" if any are. No system is perfect, but lottery type of events instead of rewarding the first X number of people would tempt me to take part
