Actually the first year Inbev purchased Goose was the first Black Friday event at the brewery on Clybourne where they released the King Henry, some secret stashes of Vanilla, and what not. So in a coincidental kinda way it may have been entirely marketed by the corporate chain.
Edit: to my knowledge it was the first. Never heard of a release party before then.

I end up holding the bridge of my nose and saying "It's only beer!" between 6 and 8 times a day after I read comments on this site.

Being in Cali I've never been able to buy BCBS and I've never hunted for GI or InBev beers, shocking I know, so I don't know how they release their beers. Meaning on Black Friday will BCBS be available to buy at retailers or will it take the usual 1 - 3 weeks to be available in locations by my hood? Or is BCBS only going to be available at the brewery or local stores in Friday?

    Thanks!

GI BCBS was available in California back in 2008. Maybe 2009, also. I bought it in the L.A. area back then and it was regular stock.

I wasn't looking for special releases and or BA beers in 2008 or 2009. So edit *i've never bought BCBS in Cali when it was available**

They also have something else barrel aging that should be released soon if not on Black Friday as well.

BCS and Black Friday is not an InBev creation.

It started in mid2010 when Greg Hall and Eric Hobbs (then of Goose, now of Penrose Brewing) decided to unleash Bourbon County Rare upon the beer world in a spectacular fashion. They chose to release it first at their largest retail account, which also happens to be across the street from the original Goose Island on Clybourn, and in tandem put the beer on tap there the same morning...i dont recall who chose Black Friday as the date, but i think it was Eric. Partnering with this retailer, they pulled off a very successful release and event.

Every year since Goose and that retailer have done a Black Friday release as well, to continue the tradition. In 2011, King Henry. In 2012, Cherry Rye.

This year Goose decided to take the Black Friday release nationwide, in addition to the Chicago release.

(full disclosure: i'm the beer manager at that retailer.)

Edit2: I think it's kinda cool to see Black Friday becoming a pseudo National Beer Holiday, and i encourage it. The more people drinking good beer, the better.
