I actually haven't had the chance to make it over to K4! And I've seen the Lakefront IBA on the shelf but keep passing it up, I don't know why.

dubhe first and foremost, then kinda yakima glory which i dont count as a black ale because it was obviously a dark amber color when i poured it and could never really figure out the aba style being attached to it

I live just over the WI border in IL and I am a WI native and I can say, without a doubt, the Black Top is outstanding.

For some reason I got it in my head that all black IPAs are brewed with rye, but this isn't generally the case right? In any case, the two I have enjoyed by far the most (Grainstorm and Wookey Jack) are both rye beers.

Noonan Black IPA from Smutty is very good and Sixpoint Diesel is half stout and black IPA both delish in my opinion

Great thread. I always forget about this style. I'm definitely a stout/porter fan wayyy more than IPAs, so I will try to find more of these!

Me too, except I'm already about 3/4 through the first bomber. Fantastic beer.

James from Hill Farmstead is absolutely delicious. And is so underrated......compared to other HF beers. It's score of 94 is just terrible for HF they ought to step up their Black Ale game!

Nuts... Now that you describe it that way:slight_frown: . It does not sound good. I prefer not knowing that those are all mixed together if that is true. Then I like it better:grinning:

I never see that one around here. I can buy Myrcenary and Lugene any day that I want it but I never see Mountain Standard. That's one that I'd really like to try.

Looking at their web site it's a seasonal, only from Sep - Dec but I don't recall seeing it here during that time.

Yeah, that is one delicious beer. I just cracked one the other day (in the fridge since release) and it was still hoppy, almost reminiscent of Surly Darkness. Glad I saved 3 more

SSR is my go to. Damn good Black IPA.
