Was really good at first. Tasted like it got sweeter as I drank it.
The more I drank the less I liked it.
Definately not worth the $22, unless you're a big fan of that champagne yeast.

I feel like the champagne yeast gave it that light and fluffy feel in the mouth. Not what I look for in a stout.

This is EVERYWHERE this year. At least in South Austin.

We can disagree about the champagne yeast/barrel-aged stout and it's characteristics... but I think we can ALL agree that it is better than the only other beer I can think of with champagne yeast: Sam Adams Infinium

Planning on bringing the 2011 as well as a few other things to a Christmas Eve party we're going to.

I think you all must have gotten DFW's allotment. They seem to be having problems finding this.

For those in DFW (and willing to travel north) Mr Gs in Plano got their shipment today. Midway Mart in Denton is supposed to get theirs tomorrow, though I'd call and have them reserve you a bottle.

Still seeing it a few HEB's...bought 1 bottle that I'm not planning on popping for at least a year. It's a healthy investment for sure...

Totally missed this one... I've been trying to find so many other beers this year (still trying to track down a bottle of Stone Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout)

Looks good, not sure if I'd want to drop $20 on it....

I thought the 2010 I opened in 2011 was amazing... but the 2011 I opened in 2012 was meh.

    They still got me though!

I had a 2011 a month or so ago and it was meh. Not a bad flavor IIRC but the champagne yeast made the mouthfeel airy and fluffy. More like a champagne mouthfeel than beer.

I really wish they'd just bottle condition it normally... I think BABCS would be better than this.

Trash the champagne yeast and at least use an English strain would make Black-Ops that much better.

It is my understanding that they use a proprietary yeast when brewing. However most beers that are barrel aged are flat from transfer and "spirit" residue of the used barrel...so the champagne yeast is not actually used but for bottle conditioning to add robust carbonation and dry the flavor/mouthfeel of a beer that would normally turn out overly sweet from the bourbon flavors and being an imperial stout. All this is in theory....I have a bottle I'm aging for a year so we'll see how that turns out....
