I've alwasys had some black residue scrape off when I clean the outside rubber of a corny keg. They're probably pretty old and the rubber/plastic is probably just rubbing away. Is there any good way to reduce this process, or remove the black stuff so I don't get it on my basement floor, fridge, and bathtub?

About half of my kegs have this problem. I'm thinking they were once cleaned with something that damaged the rubber, though that's just a guess. I decided to just live with it.

    Yep.

Short of trying to coat it with something that could turn out to be worse, none that I know of. And if you remove the black stuff, there's more black stuff beneath. Unless you remove the rubber handles/surrounds completely, which I suppose is possible, but would leave you without handles.
