Solemn Oath here in Naperville makes an excellent version of what they called a black saison, the None More Black. I'm probably not as well-versed as the rest of you folks, but it was one of the better beers I've ever had. Basically a more complex black IPA. You can't get it in stores but they make excellent beer out there, serious flavor.

I agree on the Solemn Oath recommendations. I get out there as often as I can, as I think their beer is simply amazing. I'm continually impressed with their Belgians and interpretations of styles. Unlike many, when they push boundaries the results are good. You should try and trade for a growler of La Grippe or Non More Black next time it comes around.

Southampton Black Saison, a wonderful, yet completely misunderstood brew. I wish I had more of it.

I've only tried the Stone Colab (Perfect Crime) and Pepe Nero. Neither were good IMO. I seem to remember the Perfect Crime having a note on the bottle that said specifically not to age.

I don't have anything worthwhile to add to this conversation......

Pipeworks poivre noir. I really like this beer but it gets a shitty rating round these parts

No, there are no good black saisons. A terrible, terrible style that needs to be dragged out back and shot.
