I saw it mentioned in the RS/HS allocation thread, but felt like it deserved its own post. It sounds like an awesome idea. I haven't done much experimentation with beers, but I love the idea of it. A few questions come to mind that hopefully the more experienced have answers for. When adding fruits (cherries, raspberries etc.), what is the best way to get the quick flavor? I imagine whole fruit or puree sitting in a barrel for months works great, but what would be the ideal way in this situation? What's the best method for adding coffee? Seeing as how only 50 of each Society will be attending this, could be a good place to share your ideas and try to inspire the ones who go.
Coffee is simple. Grind it down a little, toss it into a french press. Pour the booze in there. Let it sit for a couple of minutes. Press that mofo and then just pour out. Make Parabajava like that all the time. Do that same trick with Coconut or Vanilla bean (though I do like the method of popping the cap, tossing a split vanilla bean pod in, recapping and closing for a day for Vanilla), and you got yourself a great adjunct beer.
I gotta try that for sure. My favorite so far was Prop-KBS Roasted coconut flakes french pressed with..well, KBS
Just speaking to my own wants, I hope the favorite is a fruit variant. While coffee makes a great add on, unless it's used with other things I'm not sure it's what they are ultimately looking for. They already have mocha Wednesday for a straight coffee variant. Also have to make you recipe with ingredients they can easily aquire to replicate a full batch. I haven't done many mixtures with stouts, but have made a few with SitR. My favorite is SitR with Apricots.
They had this at last year's BT release party. It tasted much like a raspberry chocolate you would get in a candybox around Xmas. I was not a fan, but the straight blackberry was amazing. I'd like to see a huna clone and get some cinnamon/chilli/choc just so I don't have to jump through hoops to get a good beer of that style. For mad scientist ideas, I am thinking french press it with some BigLeagueChew for a bubblegum stout (black tuesday could use more sweetness right?)
Thai Tuesday: Coconut/ Red curry/ Birds eye chili/ Cilantro Nightmare on Dunn way: Pumpkin/ Chocolate/ Cinnamon/ Vanilla bean
