Simple question: Would it be possible to get BT for CBS?

Somewhat harder, less objective question: If it were possible, would you?

BT is probably on the top of my wish list, but CBS is nothing to sneeze at, either. Wondering if I should give up the one for the other. Keep in mind that my cellar (read: closet) is mighty tiny at the moment, consisting of the CBS, a 2011 Abyss, a 2011 Parabola, and a Chocosaurus Rye, and subsequently would not be able to offer much else.

You'll get a wide range of answers but I personally would not offer a CBS for a Black Tuesday.

I'm sure there will be a wide range of opinions on this one, with owners of each proclaiming theirs to be far more valuable than the other.

Yes a CBS will land a 2011 Black Tuesday. It will not land older vintages. I own and like both anyway.

I like both beers a lot, and probably prefer CBS more to be honest. That said, I'm not too sure I'd give up a Black Tuesday for one. I don't think you'd have a hard time finding someone who would though.

IMO you would have to add to the CBS just due to $4$ difference, if I remember correctly I got my CBS for $18-20 and BT was $30. Also the only BT you would be able to pull would be '11.

Yes I believe that trade could get done.
But I am reverse of yamar68, I would not trade my BT for CBS, I've had both and prefer BT. But that is the beauty of beer, to each their own.
If you have had CBS I say do the trade and add one more top tick to your belt, if not then drink and enjoy.

If BT is on the top of your wants list, why are you low balling? I'm not saying you have to add anything big, but if you have to ask, than you should prob add. I'm sure if you threw in the abyss or make up the diff in locals, it would get done.

I wouldn't say he's "low balling", especially given the number of CBS for BT trades that happened back when both beers were released.

I don't think it is low balling, either. If I still had a second BT, I would have been open to trading it for a CBS straight up. Offering up some local stuff to even out the $4$ might be necessary for some, though.

Hell, I did a BT 2011 for a CBS with a local beer store guy who hooks me up. Then I re-traded the CBS for essentially the same value as the BT.

Yes, probably, if you add a bit to make-up the $4$. CBS had about 2x the bottle count, but BT had a much higher allocation per person.

The only real reason why many wouldn't do it is Black Tuesday is a long-time aging candidate, whereas CBS is realistically one to drink fresh.

Nope, would not 1x1 at BT for CBS. Far prefer the complexities of Black Tuesday to the up front, slightly too bitter for me, coffee nature of CBS.

Yes, CBS can trade for Black Tuesday. At the CBS release this happened a lot even with 2010 Black Tuesday

It is true what someone said before that CBS should be drank soon, where BT could age for decades. Of course Surly Four trades pretty high and fell off its prime long ago.

I traded two 11' BT's for three CBS' a few months back and felt it was fair. Both are outstanding beers and the only issue you might run into is the cost of the BT vs. CBS which was already pointed out by others on this thread. I wouldn't be surprised if a trade went 1 to 1 though. Good luck!

I traded one of my 2011 BT for a CBS + a few Backwoods Bastard. I was very reluctant to do so but the CBS was a damn good beer. At this point with me only having a few BT left I wouldn't make that trade again though.

I have no doubt that you can go close to even CBS for BT. I haven't had CBS yet and would be interested if I had an extra BT. I'm sure someone just might ask you to even the the $4$ to make it happen.

I liked CBS but its no BT thats for sure. Especially after the 11 is returning to the form of an 09.

    Cheers!

BT is made every year, while CBS won't be brewed again for at least another 3 years from what I hear from my Founders rep.

I'd be shocked if you couldn't pull off a 1:1 on this trade for an '11 BT. I would make this trade if I had an extra BT.

I'd say if you've already had CBS but haven't tried BT, you should definitely seek out the trade.
