So seeing this in abundance for the first time in NJ. Always been kinda a bucket list beer for me. But it's hovering around $50. Holy cow that seems steep to me. Compare that with other high end stouts like Goose Island, Parabola, CBS etc and I think I'll pass. Not to mention good local stuff like Kane
Haven’t seen Bruery stuff around recently. I would occasionally splurge for a bottle of something. Don’t remember their bottles being quite that expensive though.
I have a 2014 bottle of BT. Not sure if I have been aging it as much as I can't seem to find a time/occasion to open it. I think me and a friend won a Bruery lottery and paid $100 for 3 bottles of it direct from the Brewery/Bruery. So it was $33 a bottle nine years ago. The $50 retail bottle shop price tag doesn't seem that crazy, especially with so many Breweries going from 750ml to smaller formats on their big beers.
it's a real shame that the bruery's stouts have gone out of fashion. these guys were industry pioneers in the category, and the quality of their output has not diminished at all. until last year, i'd do monthly visits to the tasting room and was always impressed by whatever black tuesday variant they were pouring that day (not to mention the trappist-style belgians and german-style lagers that were unexpectedly awesome) that said, i think $50 isn't terrible for BT... pretty sure i paid something similar for a 500ml of the port-aged BT w/ syrah grapes last year which was worth every penny. base BT is a stout that is highly regarded yet doesn't taste like any other stout (this anomaly reminds me of world wide stout as well) which i think makes it a must-try for all beer geeks
