judging by their website, it looks like blatant brewery's first round of bottles was released last week. (edit: think it's MA only)

i picked up a bomber of blatant IPA from marty's for $4.99 when i was in boston over the weekend, and just reviewed it now.

highly suggest seeking out a bottle of this while it's fresh. reminds me of maine beer co. in how much the ingredients shine through, and how well put together it is.

That is good news. I really love their session ale. Think it is one of best beers from the state.

Good stuff. If it's $4.99 at Marty's I'd assume it can be had for $3.99-$4.49 elsewhere.

The session ale was nice and the pedigree is there, so I'm expecting good things from Blatant.

I prefer my beer unfiltered and have no issues with the "opaqueness." The bottle I tried ($5) did seem to have some caramel notes that I have not experienced in the draft version. Don't know if it was my palate on the night I tried it, the bottle I got or just part of the bottled version profile, but at this point, I would have to say I prefer the draft version by a good margin.

I'm gonna have to find a bottle and test the theory out. BUT, if it is $4-5 and close to the draft version, I'll be drinking a lot.

Well, I picked up two bottles today for ~$5 and it is great. Reminds me a lot of really fresh Smutty IPA. The draft version seemed a bit different, but I REALLY like this one. My one complaint is that there isn't a bottle date (that I can see). CBC and Clown Shoes both brew up at Ipswich and put dates on their labels, not sure why Blatant doesn't. If I start getting burned with older bottles I am most likely going to forget how good this is fresh and pass it by.

Blatant brews at Buzzards Bay in Westport, the same location as Pretty Things (who handle dating with labels/stickers).

Whoops, for some reason I read Ipswich on the label, but I guess the same thing goes. CBC and Clown Shoes have label dates in their label artwork, shouldn't Blatant be able to do the same?

Hopefully people realize how tasty this is and old stock doesn't linger (especially at this price).

agreed on bottle dating. it's in their own best interests... this beer will fade into the background if people can only find it 6 months old, but it should gain momentum for them if people consistently find it fresh.

Just to clarify, the bottles in the market are the runs therefore, they are ALL FRESH. That being said, we do plan to date bottles in the future, just haven't figured out the best way to do so yet. Trust me, I want dated bottles too.

I thought about having labels printed with the dates, but my big issue with this is the cost of doing such short runs of labels. For whatever reason, other breweries are able to make this work, but with the costs associated with making these beers, I just could not justify it on our first batches. hope you understand.

No fear of that... there aren't enough bottles to last 6 months. Every bottle is essentially pre-sold to accounts that have been allocated our beer. Lucky us, but a bummer because many retailers out there will not get our beer until we bump up production. Draft is taking a huge chunk and will not allow for more bottles at this time. Stay tuned though, we are working to increase production and will make a formal statement about that very soon.

How about doing the date using bottle caps? Either "Batch n" style or Month/Year?

I was curious to see if there was any talk of making custom bottle caps over at probrewer, and lo and behold, look what I find!

Hey Matt, are you going to be bottling every month? If so, maybe I can help by adding your labels to ours when they run them. Out of country now but back next week, just shoot me a beermail or a cell #. Best, Gregg B.

Custom bottle caps are a wonderful thing... but please realize that the minimum run on a single custom crown is about 300,000 pieces. Don't think the crown is the way to go.
