I have tried this now and then when the pint I ordered isn't quite doing it for me.
Latest successful combo, Sierra Nevada Ovila Quad & Fat Heads Head Hunter. Mmmm.
I have no use for purists in blues or beers....

Brewers blend their own different beers all the time and have been doing it for who knows how long. It's not about being bored it's about being creative or searching for new flavor combinations. Im thankful I dont live in a world where everyone thinks like you. I'd probably be out-casted for things like sprinkling cheese on my pizza.

Beer is supposed to be fun. If you've had the same beer a few times, you understand what the brewer intended. There's nothing harmful with playing around a little. Relax, and be a bit open-minded.

I did the same thing when I couldn't make up my mind which one to start with. I was surprised how good it was.

Duvel is good for mixing with a few darks, nothing imperial though, Ive had it with Guiness extra stout and Left Hand MSN. Duvel on the bottom.

I once bought a 6 pack of a coffee stout that I couldn't stand. Hoping to salvage the purchase, I tried a half and half with the stout and Goose Island IPA. It was actually pretty good. Normally, I'd agree with you, but in this instance it made sense to me.

The only beers I have purchased to mix purposefully have been Goose Island 312 and Raspberry Lambic. It's like 3/4 of the 312 and 1/4 Lambic. Highly recommended.

Just had one over the top sour mixed with a chocolate foreword barrel aged sour stout. The Bruery's oude tart mixed with blue mountain barrel house sour devil is very well balanced and would give any beer geek a hard on.

Prior to my BA, beer snobbery days I used to love Black and Tans. I find myself wanting to try and blend or try something new. Not huge into Belgians more a stout, porter, IPA, barley wine fan. Just wondering what people have tried and succeeded with if any. I tried the Ballast point black eye and that's about it...

I am a big fan of IPA and stout, but I am not very creative. i started this exact same thread on my b day back in December and some people posted with some pretty awesome blends - like raspberry lambics and chocolate stouts

    stout/porter + bourbon.

or (what should be named after me b/c i've turned so many people onto it and loved it so often personally) sierra nevada celebration with woodford reserve. the spiciness of the bourbon matches the piny hops perfectly, and the heavy oak element of the bourbon really sets off the malt backbone. it's a perfect marriage; adds new flavors you won't expect.

(edit: re: blending beer+beer, i don't know. haven't done it often)

    ----

edit2: p.s. for you readers who have stayed out of the world of bourbon for some reason, woodford reserve is very cheap ($25~30 for 750ml), and (in my opinion) better than just about all its competitors up until you hit the $55~60 price range (and many there too). the Pahn Cocktail i'm advocating is not a pricy drink.

I'm usually against blending but I will say the IPA + Stout thing isn't bad if you mix the right ones. I believe I tried a 90 minute IPA with Ten-Fidy and it was nice. It was about 2/3 IPA and 1/3 Stout and came out tasting alot like the black IPA's that are popular as of recent times.
