I blend beers alot for fun and learning, a lot has been hit and miss, especially with sour/bitter combos. But I had a great day last week blending Rumpkin with a bland milk stout, it reminded me a lot of the different strengths of espresso and milk drinks, espresso > macchiato > cappuccino > latte.

Everything worked well for me (except the straight milk stout, meh), straight rumpkin, 4 oz rumpkin to 1 oz milk stout, 50/50, and just a splash of Rumpkin in the milk stout.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying some milk stouts in some bigger imperial stouts now.

Made a nice mix of 50/50 petrus oud bruin and SN porter recently. The porter flavors dominated but the petrus added a really nice depth.

So I came across ccb expresso stout. Rich and robust notes of coffee expresso ( so much that it was hard to finish a 12oz. Serving lol). I was drinking Stones IPA that comes in the six pack ( possibly the only six pack they make lol). Stones IPA has an awesome taste for hop heads it has a golden hue, hops give this beer a great citrus grapefruit taste and a solid caramel malty back bone to compensate for the hop bitterness.
Anyways back to the brew of awesomeness....
I mixed the stone IPA with the ccb expresso stout from ccb and called it my hoppy expresso!

Benefits of working at a brewery: blending beers regularly at the end of the day.

My favorite so far has definitely been 50/50 Alewerks pumpkin and coffeehouse stout. I'm sure the stereotypical yuppy white girl would love a 6%-ish pumpkin spice latte beer.

Just had a Weyerbacher Aries with no idea that it was a blend of their pumpkin ale and a stout...the beer list at the bar listed it as an American Strong Ale, and I knew it was a limited edition. Tasted like a holiday ale to me, and I was disappointed in it overall. Then when I found out it was a blend I understood where I was getting all the spice from. How common are blends like this? I kind of have a weird image in my head of someone saying, "Hey, let's mix some of this with some of that and package it as a whole new limited edition deal!" I get blended wines because it's more of a certain recipe--blending together varieties of grapes. But just mixing two beers into one...it kind of feels like a cheat to me. Curious to know others' thoughts.

There are many beers that are not a result of one batch that is brewed > fermented > bottled together. For example lots of sours are blends of older and newer stuff. Or if you look at Abyss, it is a blends stuff that was aged in different types of barrels, etc.

I actually had a glass of "Rugene" at a bar recently. I think it was mixed on site, but it was listed as a blend of Odell's Lugene and Founders Rubaeus. And it was delicious.

Sierra Nevada 30th Grand Cru is a Dry hopped blend of Oak Aged Bigfoot, Celebration ale, and Pale Ale. Blew my mind earlier this year. Just wish I was able to find another one now.

Not particularly common for brewery to blend beers. But the Aries wasn't just a random choice.

Here's a write up from the brewery about how it came about:

Blend a triple IPA with your next negroni! Bitter hops and sweet go extremely well. A nice sidecar at the very least.

Firestone Walker Anniversary beers were what came to my mind immediately when I saw this post. I have only had the last few (15, 16, and getting a 17 via trade this week) but they are a blend of at least 5 or more beers. To me, they have been some of the most complex beers I have had.

So, there was another awesome blending thread already but for the life of me I can't find it.

Anyway, tonight I did, all Bruery since I'm a Bruery fanboi:

    1 part Windowsill
    2 parts Wanderer
    9 parts Chocolate Rain

Damn, this is good, chocolate-covered berry tart supreme. Yum.
