Does anyone have experience mixing different beers to make a better beer? I've had an old Young's 2x Chocolate sitting in my refrigerator for a while and when I opened it tonight it had lost a lot of its punch, so I mixed it with some Billy's Chilies. As it turns out a 1:1 mix of Young's Double Chocolate Stout and Billy's Chilies makes an outstanding beer. Anyone have any recipes or want to try this and report back?

I have seen many posts about mixing beers on BA. I don't get it! The way I look at it is if your are mixing beers then drink better beer!

I've done FBS and BCBS. Turned out fantastic.
Same goes for FBS and Pumking.

I still have some others I want to try. I'd assume doing it with hoppy beers wouldn't be too good, but maybe I'll try that soon.

The whole purpose for me is to just have fun with beer and try to make something awesome and interesting. I always look to blend with an intent and purpose.

(For example, FBS is light in body and heavy on bitterness. That makes it a perfect beer to balance and compliment with another beer.)

I love using Founders Rubeaus as a mixer. I've mixed it with porters, stouts, berliner weisse, saisons, even citrusy IPA's. I think my favorite was 2/3 Double Trouble and 1/3 Rubeaus. It was a very refreshing double IPA!

Beer + pizza is even better when taken together, but separately.

agree with this. i mixed a little Rubeaus with some Bourbon County the other day and it turned out great. it honestly wasnt that much different from Backyard Rye. next time i open some Backyard i will likely do a side by side.

Double Chocolate mixes well with pretty much anything. Try it with Framboise or Sam Smith's Raspberry/Strawberry beers. Awesome. Also, if you get it in a nitro can, try making a black and blue with it and your favorite Wit. Simple, but oh so tasty combos.

I bought a 32oz growler that was probably 2:1 Barrier Lights Out Stout to Bourbon County Stout and I loved it. Nice buzz too.

Mixed Pumpking with Sammy Smith Organic Chocolate and with ST Creme Brûlée and was a pretty big fan of both.

Any craft drinker I'm sure has mixed Young's Chocolate with Lindemann's Kriek (chocolate covered cherries) and Delerium Tremens with Lindemann's Framboise, also great.

Cut my teeth on half-and-halves (Guinness or Murphy's with harp), black-and-tans (Guinness or Murphy's with Boddington's) and have even done it with porters for a 3rd layer. It's been years since I've done any of those.

You do realize that a lot of amazing beers that you buy in the store are blends of different beers, right? One of the best beers I've ever had (Firestone 17) is a blend of 7 different beers. Some styles are pretty much exclusively blends of different beers. Do I have the skill to blend beers as well as the people behind F17? No. But can I create something interesting that I'll enjoy? Yes.

And not to forget some of Dogfish's beers being blends. Oh... and one of the highest rated and sought after styles. Gueuze!

Good call on DFH. Bitches Brew is an amazing beer that's a blend. Every time a bar around me taps a keg of it it sells out in less than 24 hrs.

I was wondering if anyone else has had fun mixing beers? I've been doing this a little bit lately since it's often cheaper than resorting to 10-15 dollar bombers to try something I haven't had. I find that usually a Java Stout or Cream Stout mixed with a good Imperial Stout is a great balance. Cuts down the ABV a little bit but adds a little extra complexity at the same time. I really like all the well known Imperial Stouts but only drinking them can get monotonous not to mention out of hand if you have more than a few...

Here are some examples of some of the combos I've been trying...

Bell's Expedition with Bell's Double Cream Stout
    same with Bell's Smoked Stout
    same with Bell's Java Stout
OB Ten Fidy with Santa Fe Java Stout
OB Ten FIdy with my homebrewed stout

It adds a nice change up to the usual routine, any one else tried this?

Founders Rubeaus is a great beer to mix with. I've mixed all of these beers with it, and they were all very unique and quite tasty.
    Founders Porter
    Founders Imperial Stout
    All Day IPA
    Founders Double Trouble
I've even mixed it with Champagne during a beer brunch.

I wonder if mixing a Bud Light or Coors Light with a really great double IPA would work? Might be a great way to cut down on ABV and save some $$.

Honestly, Mikkeller Black was flat and overpowering... until I pulled out some leftover MGD 64 and cut that ABV and added some carbonation, whoops.
