My wife thoroughly enjoys mixing a bit of Lindemans Framboise with Guiness or Murphy's. Say, 20/80 mix.

She really liked Bell's Cherry Stout, so I'm wondering if she'd like a fuller bodied stout mixed with the Framboise.

A local bar does Racer5 and Guiness and the combination isn't bad at all

I've always liked 2/3 stout, 1/3 spiced pumpkin ale in the fall.

Someone on a different thread recommended mixing 40% Ballantine IPA with 60% Ballantine XXX Ale, and you'll get what Ballantine approximately tasted like a few decades ago. I tried it at Thanksgiving, and I really, really enjoyed it.

Coors original and a homebrew IPA from my buddy. It made both beers taste better. It was only his second batch. He's done some amazing stuff since.

So I know the old Black and Tan is a popular choice for the masses but I am wondering if you all ever mix craft beers. At local brewery by me, Tighthead in Mundelein IL, one of the bartenders told my brew partner her favorite beer was a 50/50 mix of the IPA(Ire IPA) and the APA(Chilly Water). We discussed this in great length over many a beers the other night, bottom line we agreed to disagree.

    Thoughts, comments etc........

I'm not sure why one would mix an IPA and APA as I'm not sure I'd be able to discern any noticeable or desirable difference. Now, mixing a chocolate-heavy beer with one with coffee, or chocolate and chili, or chocolate and coconut, coffee and coconut, different variations like that, that seems a bit more sensible.

I guess what I'd want is to flavors that when mixed, complement each other and make a greater sum. IPA + APA seems to be either more hops or more malt, neither of which seems to create that greater sum.

I know folks had been mixing Rubaeus and Founders Imperial Stout for a long while and Big Lushious seems like the end result (much better than Rubaeus on its own) so, for science, there is some virtue to mixing anything I guess.

I mix beers all the time. Sometimes good+good = not so good. Sometimes mediocre + good = awesome. Sometimes meh+decent = very good. And so on...

Eventually, your blending skills will frequently produce concoctions that you will be pleased to pour down your cake hole.

I don't mix them together but I will follow one style with another, for example start with an amber ale and then move on to an IPA or a stout.

If I want to mix something, I'll make a cocktail. I like my beer the way the brewer intended it to be.

Very good point mixing flavors, and I might mix my home brew Vanilla porter with a coffee stout very soon!!
