Just thought I’d post this on here real quick-like, as the only places we’ve talked about this are on Facebook and in our tap room. I’ve been doing a small series of talks here at the brewery… a couple for our entire staff as well as one for the public last month. It’s a fun little talk called Gestalt Theory: Blending A Barrel Aged Sour Beer, as blending basically comes down to making a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. When we blended Eremita V (tap room-only blended sour made from four different base beers) a few months ago, I also pulled separate kegs out from each of the individual beers. For this talk, we taste Eremita V, the four individual base beers, and then three other beers that didn’t make the cut in blind tastings. We go back and forth with each beer, talking about what each contributed to the overall blend and why the outliers didn’t make it in even though some of them are fine beers in their own right. And then we set you up with another glass and a small measuring cup so you can try to make your own blends. There’s also plenty of palate-cleansing beer and some food (I believe we’re getting sandwiches from Dish Gourmet for the next talk). So it’s 8 barrel aged beers, Joe’s Pilsner for palate cleansing, and food. The only downside is that you have to listen to me talk for a while. I’m doing the next talk in the Avery Barrel Aging Cellar on Monday the 24th, with another planned for late July. We list it as 6pm-9pm... at the first talk I started around 6:20-6:30 and the main talk was done by 8:30, with plenty of time for more questions and beer tasting. Tickets are $60, which just covers the cost of the beer ‘n’ stuff. I'm not getting a cut or anything . If you’re interested you can pick up tickets at the Tap Room or call and buy a ticket with a credit card. I believe there are still 10-ish seats left for the Monday talk. Hope to see a few of you there! Rock on. Andy Parker Barrel Herder Avery Brewing Company
I went to the first talk and it was awesome. Well worth the money and it was a really unique experience to taste all of the component beers and learn why they were chosen. All you local BAs should be jumping on this!
My wife and I would be all over this if it wasn't on a Monday night. Just too tough to get up to Boulder and back on a work night.
I also have gone to one of these - the original one done with the Society for the Pursuit of Hoppiness group. It's a tremendous event unlike anything else going on right now. Also, I am officially more OG than Corey.
