Does anyone know where to get a Blichmann burner heat shield? I've Googled, found threads here and there mentioning them, but nothing about where to order.

Brewers hardware has heat shielded thermowells if thats what you mean. If you use a controller instead of the standard thermometer, you have to worry about the hanging wire getting cooked (it has happened to me).

I don't have a Blichmann kettle - I have their burner. I noticed that temps on my Brewmometer seemed a little off during my first use last weekend and I thought I'd investigate the mysterious heat shield.

Yeah, I know it's just a piece of metal, but I have zero skills in the fabricate-it-myself arena. Perhaps the thermowell suggested by WickedSluggy would suffice....

Gotcha, I've also seen the heat shield help stop liquid in the sight glass from boiling.

You should have a metal fabrication place in your area, I've got two local places in rural Vermont...go down and see if they have a piece of scrap, something like a 8" by 12" sheet of metal to act as heat shield. Hopefully they'll hook you up and you can throw them a couple dollars.

I use this heat shield on my Boilermaker kettle site glasses and love it. I don't even bother with a heat shield on my ball valves.
