I would toss in another recommendation for FBS, Peche Mortel and Aun Mas Cafe Jesus. All three are awesome. I have a bottle of each sitting in my cellar at this very moment, perhaps I'll have to do a blind side-by-side of my own.

VAS and FBS. Any tasting should have greatness included as a reference point.

Even though Ballast Point calls Victory at Sea an imperial porter, it's a stout. So, Victory at Sea is a must. Mother's Brewing Winters Grind would be good, as well as Southern Tier's Mokah - I know Mokah has a pretty high chocolate element to it, but the coffee really shines through.

but you cant even get it. They havent made it for a year or so and very limited growlers of it.

    Morning Bell would be closer.

Surprised no has mentioned Victory at sea. It's a stout labeled as a porter.

Can the beer have other adjuncts? The Awakening from Angry Chair, just had it last night, is one of the better coffee stouts I've had. It does have maple in it as well.

Don't even bother with the tasting, Peche Mortel wins any competition hands down.

Its an imperial porter. pretty close to a stout, but it does have a lighter mouthfeel.
