Blind IPA Taste Test Results!

    Disclaimer: I do not consider these the best 9 IPA in the country so dont lynch me lol...these are what i happened to have available to me from recent trips/ trades/ etc

    We used plenty of water and pretzels to cleanse the pallet and non clear plastic cups to not give away any look of the beers

    The lineup was TH Green, TH Julius, TH Haze, Surly Abrasive, FFF Dreadnaught, 18th St Undercrown, Trillium Congress St, Other Half 2nd Anniversary DIPA, and Grimm Lambo Door

    Every beer was 1month or younger with the exception of Abrasive( canned in November)

    The results for me were pretty surprising
    1. Haze
    2. Green
    3. Congress St
    4. 2nd Anni
    5. Julius
    6. Abrasive
    7. Lambo
    8. Undercrown
    9. Dreadnaught

    Notes: Top 5 i noted as "world class" with Haze being a clear number 1...i was surprised fresh lambo door was 7 and that 3 month old abrasive held up so well

    Discuss!
    Also, anyone with surprises in other blind tests?

    No surprise. Having had all multiple times (most in my fridge now) I'd rank them:
    2-1-3-5-4-7-6-8-9.

    Had most of those, would agree with the order, haze is definitely their best brew

    Lambo is so hyped right now, I found it to be a better smelling beer than taste.

    Abrasive brewed in November taking 6th going up against those fresh beasts? Way to go Surly. I haven't had most of those but not surprised Dreadnaught took last, that beer has always underwhelmed me and I love FFF.

    Can you please provide more details on how the "blind" aspect was done. Were you for instance totally unable to see the beers you were drinking?

    I've never had an (D)IPA drop off as fast as anything from Treehouse. There is a noticeable drop between 2 weeks old and 1 month old.

    The Lambo I had on tap the other night was a let down, not surprised the 2nd Anni from OH was well liked.

    Wish I had been involved in this game! I think Zombie Dust should have been substituted for Dread. And Axeman blows away Abrasive.

    I hope you're right I didn't think abrasive was anything special, but definitely want to give Todd a fair chance.

    When I had a ~3 month old Abrasive I couldn't help but think "this beer would be better <1 month!". I think I tasted some oxidation. That said it's a great beer. It's literally the only beer I've had on that list.

    Curious, why did you mix regular IPAs with DIPAs? Doesn't seem like an accurate comparison to me.
