If its a beer you have drank a lot of, the color and head can be very telling. And you can use it to narrow things down. I mean put a Two Hearted next to a Celebration Ale and its going to be real obvious which one is which.

316SS is overkill don't ya think? The beer isn't going to sit in it that long.

I think I'd rather have titanium.

I have only had two hearted a couple of times, so I can't comment on how unique the appearance is. Nevertheless, I am hard pressed to think that even the most seasoned craft drinker could tell a bunch of different IPA's apart just by their appearance. Maybe I am dead wrong and it happens and I should just shut my mouth. Speaking from my perspective though, I'd never be able to do it. I have drank more Brooklyn Lager over the years than I can imagine. If you threw it in a line up of like colored brews I'd never guess which one it was. Perhaps I don't pay as much attention to the appearance.

Sarcasm again - Titanium is so expensive but I would love a titanium drinking vessel.

I think you are right to an extent, yeah if you give me 10 IPAs I might not be able to identify any of them. But for the ones I drink alot, at the very least I know which end of the color spectrum they land on. I won't confuse Two Hearted for the Celebration because I know the Two Hearted is lighter. But if their are 4 other IPAs the similar in color to the Two Hearted it will be difficult to tell those apart based on color.

I dunno, I immediately picked Pliny out of a blind IPA lineup. 90 Min too. Some really aren't that hard.

I would think, if person could tell a beer from its color, they could tell it from its aroma and taste.

I've actually done a blind tasting of DIPA's. Now I drink Pliny regularly (short 10 minute drive to the pub) and I could have sworn that I knew what it looked like. In a blind tasting, I actually picked the wrong one based off color. So I would say that the appearance doesn't have much to do with it.

However, as soon as I tasted it I knew it was Pliny.

I think showering is needed if you smell bad enough to change the taste of your beer:stuck_out_tongue:

every blind tasting I've done has been with my ex, I'd close my eyes and he'd give me the beers and have me rank them before telling me what each was. I always figured everyone else did blind tastings blind! It's not very hard to do if you have a friend willing to drink a little of your beer in exchange for an easy task!

This is it exactly. If you doing a blinded tasting, dont try and out-smart the system. Just drink, choose your favorite, and be surprised when the results are revealed.
