I'm interested in trying some selections from Block 15, but not sure how much is available in the trading market. Anyone successfully trade for some?
I've tried to land Figgy Pudding without any luck, twice. I believe it was $15 to $16 a bottle and around 66 total cases. Imagine was around the same price. Edit: I offered limited "shelf" beers. In hindsight, I probably wasn't offering enough.
i sent out the recent round of southampton released brews for the recent block 15 stuff and an AftW & Michael. i also dropped a bottle of southampton raspberry lambic for a bottle of imagine and a westy 8. they are out there, you just need to find someone in the PNW that is looking for something you've got.
Like much of the small batch Portland area stuff, it's a tough get. Not many traders up there, and they're quite fond of their locals. I'm right there with you in that I'd love to try Imagine. For stuff like Figgy or Imagine, it will basically take other highly reviewed limited releases. cosmicevan's Southampton stuff is probably right on point. I'd imagine stuff like Hill Farmstead would do it, super desirable more widely limited releases like King Henry or BCBS variants, etc.
Kee-ripes, can we kill this meme? We've got plenty of traders, and a number of us have put our Block15 stuff out there in FTs. I personally have 3 trades in progress involving the latest releases.
I had 2 locals tell me the same thing when I was poking around for Imagine. They said it would be tough to pry it out of their hands and would take one hell of an offer. The new site has been up for over a week and I see 0 FT's with "Block 15", "Imagine", or "Figgy" in them. I'm certainly not saying that there are no Oregon traders (hell I've done a trade with Oregon), but the number of Oregon traders most certainly does not meet the demand for their beers. Vermont is in a similar boat, except for the fact that oodles of us Massholes drive up there to satiate the trade market.
Here ya go: http://beeradvocate.com/community/t...o-ktg-ba4d-ba-plead-cbs-others.920/#post-8233 He's even posted twice. Keep in mind: a) Dude, it's only been a week. I don't see that you or the OP have posted any ISOs for them either. b) Imagine and Figgy are not the most recent releases c) The last release was a month ago, so most of the trading action happened then d) We have just as much trouble prying people's precious limited releases out of their hands as you do Keep in mind the mathematics of it. You've got all these beers where there's only a few hundred bottles out there. And the people who have them are looking for a particular set of beers themselves. So, you've got a pretty sparse graph of gots and wants, and you've got to get lucky to find a match.
You're doing it wrong Kevin. Encourage the idea that there's few of us trading and then hype up the next limited release with the addendum "limited traders and rare"! Then you ask for Crianza Helena.
I traded some Upland Lambics for Imagine and Figgy Pudding back in December. I should note, however, that the guy put up an ISO/FT looking specifically for Upland Lambics and offering up Block 15 stuff.
I'm not sure we're really disagreeing about anything here. I'm not trying to say "woe is me these releases are impossible to get". Not in the least! I'm just saying that the demand for these bottles is much higher than the supply of traders, and thus they are tough gets. I've noticed this time and time again with Oregon releases. Others have too. Bottle counts on these beers are no less than many other releases that seem to get traded more. Nobody is bashing you guys or anything like that, it's just simple supply and demand. Like I said, Vermont has the exact same effect with HF, Lawson's, and HT - the only big difference being lots of MA traders drive up there. If you notice the majority of Hill Farmstead FT's are from non-VT users. It is what it is - but don't pretend it's just as easy to score those limited releases from HotD, Block 15, etc as it is to get something like Cigar City, which has similar bottle counts and demand, but boatloads more traders.
the majority of the block 15 stuff i traded for was a pass along from another local buddy. for the imagine, i went to the gots and BM'ed the guy who lived closest (to save on shipping) and my trade was actually in-state to land the imagine. if there is a specific beer you want, the best bet is to go underground...if you are just fishing to see what's out there or have a big ISO and FT list, the forums are the move. i do most of my trading behind the scenes. i'd say it is probably 60/40 with unsolicited trades as the 60. people are also way more reasonable behind the scenes. i know i am.
i'm doing what i can - 4 block 15 trades and counting, involving 7 bottles of figgy, and my only(!) bottle of super nebula. ISO - super nebula, FT - figgy and pappy's dark...
recent made a trade for block 15 figgy pudding, super nebula, and papys dark. i traded 3 bottles of bcbs varients. Hope this helps. both parties were happy with the trade.
One amazing oregon trader extra'd me super nebula, and 2 years of pappy dark -- presumably for my birthday. I owe him.
